whichever ones you get, don't expect much rear view through them they are all 'pants' I have never met anyone who has said 'aren't towing mirrors great' get the cheapest ones you can just to comply with the law :thumb2

Thats because theres no one actually sad enough to discuss them other than when asked directly or looking for some.

Theres a MASSIVE difference between the cheap £4.99 market shite and the likes of grand aeros (which are silly money).

Durability , strength of , ease and lack of damage mounting , vibration (or not) and field of view to name some of the points

Ive found this style are decent all rounders and sensible money , most car mirrors are still very usable with them attached :thumb2 the pic the seller has used does actually reflect the difference they make with wider vans.

you can get them cheaper.

the old adage if you cant see the driver in their mirrors they cant see you is very true and is actually the basis of the law. Have a lok around , you'll see loads of the pratts.

I cant recall the actual legislation but Im pretty sure the spirit of it is you just need mirrors that you can see behind with and on some 4x4s the standard ones are adequate

Dave, I have a pair of both the mirrors in the above links, In fact i have loads. You tend to collect them with second hand caravans, along with stabilisers. I have found neither of them any better in use than the heap rubber band mounting types, and for an 8ft wide caravan behind a T2 none of the stick out far enough!

The one small advantage of the 'suck it and see' is that you can adjust it using your electric mirror controls - if you have them of course! but they still vibrate like mad :doh

I use a suck it and see on the drivers side, and an old raydot type rubber band mounted one on the passenger side, it has been the most effective combination but far from ideal.

And as you say even you mate says they are crap :augie

But I'm only commenting from experience of daily use of these on a 52 plate T2, pretty similar to the opening post question :augie

laggy band type, wobble, genrally c&n

rock steady on T2, and 2 different kinds of jeep are just that, as rock steady as you can get and leave the original mirror clear and adjustable.

Suck it and see obscure the main mirror, cant be good even if they dont drop off. Apparently they wobble like hell out in the airflow

cheap imitations of all varieties crap.

Had loads of the damned things over the past 25years.

Best I tried (on loan) were milenco grand aeros. Superb field of view past a wide caravan and no wobble at all until past certain limits

If none stick out far enough you have an unroadworthy set up and need to look at some better ones , spend some dosh:thumb2

I was considering that on my old car because the reverse camera monitor had an additional input. unfortunately on the new one i dont understand the wiring :lol

This is the wireless camera that I plan to get to go with the monitor above, there are wired camera on this guys site under a fiver but could be a problem on a caravan!

The best bet for towing mirrors (so I'm told) is to obscure your original ,mirror completely so you don't keep looking in it out of habit. In practise it's the best view you will have so best to leave the towing mirrors in the shed :lol

My suck it ans see's are th real thing, I've never seen any imitations and yes they do vibrate just as badly as all the others. But bear in mind your caravan isn't' all that wide and your Jeep is much wider than a T2 - there is the difference!


CCTV is interesting, but would it satisfy the relevant laws :nenau

Towing mirrors should be in addition to the existing mirrors so suck it and see are technically illegal . in reallity the chances of getting nicked is remote as the police cant be bothered but it might be a good get out for an insurance company if an accident claim was put in.Pre 2010 cars (I think) only need one on the drivers side

The best mirors on the market IMHO are milenco aeros , good vision and little if nil shake but at £20ish each not cheep.
