Have a look at the photo below and tell me where you think est location for towbar sockets please. I don’t have 13 pin trailers so I am having the 12n and 12s sockets. I don’t intend any laning with this truck so shouldn’t be any danger of damage. Let me know what you think.

1. Put new sockets on towbar
2. Fit them in the bumper as per the masking tape. I fitted sockets there on my old truck and the lasted for years but caused minor inconvenience to the rear step.

Not sure who it was but I liked the hinged number plate fitting where it was concealed!

Lazy Ferret did the hinged number plate, great idea but at the moment I’m not too enthusiastic about much so that might be a little too much work.

Only problems I can see are,

there is the metal re-enforcer behind that spot, and I don't think there was much clearance between the bumper re-enforcer and the body panel that goes down from the boot, so you may need to have a good look behind. Its a while since I had my bumper off, so can't remember exactly how it goes there and I am not at home to check the photo's I have.

It puts the sockets a long way from the towbar, and would stretch the leads a fair way when turning Left, assuming the would reach in the first place.

The other is dependent on how you use the step, I would worry someone might stand on them rather than the step.

this has been on my mind as mine are next to the ball on the standard plate but i have trouble getting down to fit plugs and want a way to raise them so i can fit easier.then the wiring might not be long enough so was thinking new sockets and plugs on a short extension and leave old pluge in full time.but where to fit new sockets.

been on my mod list since first t2 but as said am concerned about clearance behind bumper.
especially with 13 core cable being so chunky.

as i run a 13 pin have wondered about going to left of wheel so as said cant get stood on,
i use a 13 to 2x7 lead so the extra distance would help soak up the slack i have as twist
mine once round jockey wheel handle.

another option i did get as far as was convert the 7s into trailing sockets and then wrapped
them up in a bag behind number plate.

Many moons ago i mounted mine via a bracket onto the box section of the towbar.
Tucked away under the bumper but also out of harms way.

On my old truck I drilled through plastic bumper and metal reinforcement and placing sockets up there was fine didn’t cause a problem at all for me other than they got in the way a little climbing in and out of boot or as most of the time had a dog cage the wife or dogs knocked the socket covers off. They also lasted for years up there well greased and out of the way of knocks and crud.

Years ago we had a member on here called Cadmonkey who had both wired into female plugs stored in the back of his commercial Terrano. When he needed them he just brought them out and trapped cable in bottom of tailgate. Worked well for him but I was worried about damage to seals or cables.

My son fabricates Stainless Steel so he has agreed to make me a plate for towbar to mount the sockets. Probably just keep them as standard on the towbar as I have no intention of off roading. It’s also easier:thumbs

Fair enough, I just thought I would throw it out there just in case you had overlooked any of them.

It’s why I posted for people’s opinions :thumbs

To be honest I’m getting so tired after working on all the wiring I just want to get it finished. Trucks been sat under car port for best part of a fortnight or so. Thought I’d be over all this illness but I’m totally wiped out so just want to get this buttoned up or just sorn the truck and leave it alone for a few months.
