I have managed to make a proper mess of my towbar wiring and snap the bracket that holds the sockets on while doing some offroad parking in the Tesco's car park :augie

Before I rewire the sockets I am thinking of putting them elsewhere on the back of the truck so they will not get bashed again.

I did search the site and found one pic of the socket on the rear corner of the truck, but also need other ideas :D

trailing sockets are good, you can put a cable tie round them and put them out of the way when not in use:

don't be tempted by metal sockets and plugs the seem to break under less stress than the plastic ones :thumb2

i hadnt thought of that. loads of space up behind the bumper to tie them up.

just keep hanging down so dont fill with water / mud

and if they are loose and they get a bump they dont break, they just swing out of the way :thumb2

my plan on terrano the mk2 onwards having more room was to mount in the step
bumper area, indeed still my plan with trol as my sockets are both on same side
mounted to ball bolts and currently bent right back against tow bar.

on a mark 1 t2 and mav the bumper follows the spare, but could still do them
up on outside of bumper, as much higher. before t2 went i took cameraman's
advise, had socket loose on cable, stuck in a plastic bag and shoved up behind
tank and bumper.

some one mounted their 12n way up near side brake lights, but suspect might
need to length trailer's cable or have an extension on it then.

another benefit is if remove physical connection between sockets and tow bar
then if want can remove tow bar for off roading, sure its said only 6 bolts
to remove, then improve departure angle losing the plough too!

Brilliant, thanks. I will take a look at the weekend :thumb2

Mine's in the step bit below the spare. Plenty of room behind there for the wires to fit, and the socket screws into the metal work behind the plastic bumper:thumbs

Mine's also on the bumper. Wired both sockets into one 13 pin socket as nearly all the caravans I tow have single 13 pin plug. Carry an adaptor for old 7 pin ones.

:thumbs by the way, have you got a light hidden somewhere for the number plate?:augie

I plan to mount mine higher. Also thinking about a method of quick detachment of the tow bar.

There's only 6 bolts anyway :augie
I changed mine to stainless bolts and nylocks, so they stay nice n easy to get off:thumbs

It's just for my dads trailor. Handy to know I have it to carry stuff. Theres plenty of lead to reach.

I will have a look at the bolts. Maybe some pins would make it quicker.
