I've got one of those crappy OEM ford ones that welded to the side and I've caught it when ascending up a very steep bank and it's snapped off and is currently held on to the Tow Bar with 3-4 strong cable ties

Am I right in thinking I can unbolt the plugs from the plate that's snapped off and bolt them on to this one which will bolt to the tow bar behind the ball fixture if that makes sense?

If thats the wrong one could someone link me to one that would work?

Thanks

I had the same problem. What i did was fix it into the rear bumper just above the step part.

Kids kept getting peed off going round the 4x4 course trying to find my cable.

Your option will work to.

Perfect as long as that one will work I'd rather have it attached to a plate :D

Even better than the bumper, fit it to the body just under the rear light cluster. I had mine on the bumper for a while till a tree stole my bumper :doh

If your tow ball is held on with 2 bolts then that plate will sandwich between the tow bar and tow ball. However as said it'll happen time and time again, mines mounted on rear bumper and not had a minutes bother with it.

I think I'd prefer them back on a plate tbh, but if it does happen again then I'll consider attaching it to the bumper.

Have any of you guys got pics of how you have done it?

Also my tow bar ball has 4 bolts

I'll upload a pic in a sec

my old one was mounted like that i turned it so it was mounted at the top 2 bolts instead of the side, you can bend it back a touch so you can still attach a trailer or van

Be carefull if you decide to use two of the bolts on your towball to mount the plate. You may be able to buy a 4 bolt plate or make one perhaps but use all 4 bolts and then the stress will be taken evenly across all four bolts when towing.

I dont see as that would matter, its only thin stuff and if he really needed too he could use to washers. But he could always bolt it from the back then it would make no difference at all.

Unless im missing something.
