hi guys, ive put on a thread about torsion bar ajustment few days ago ,got some excellent responce on how to ajust, but im a little unsure about how to lift the front end , mine is beggining to luck like the old leyland princess with the hydrolastic leak :lol ,ive had 4x4s before but never have they sunk !(toyotas) .im told you have a lock nut & ajuster 2 off half way down the car are these the ones that lift the front .sorry for being a pain guys but i wanted to make sure what im ajusting before i attempt it ;)

Yep they're the ones. Just crack the lock nut and then use a 19mm ratchet spanner on the next nut and wind away :D
Oh by the way squirt oodles of WD40 on there first:thumbs

As he said squirt plenty of WD40 on thread so as to soften the muck that been there a decade or so,

its all in the workshops & manual.

don't forget to adjust the headlights after

Adjust front suspension

Hi,

Coplue of things I learn't when adjusting mine, may be of use to you.

It is worth putting a jack under the front cross member and lift the front and take the weight off the front suspension. Makes adjusting the torsion bars much much easier.

Also remember to hold the nut on top of the adjuster with a spanner whilst adjusting, otherwise you could be winding the adjuster and the nut spins at the same time on the top resulting in nothing happening!

If I remember correctly 1 full rotation of the adjuster roughly = 5mm suspension lift.

Slightly smaller gap in the front arches when compared to the rear, fronts about 20-30mm less I believe is about the right stance.

Cheers,

Steve

When I did mine, I did it while it was on the ground.
You can slide underneath and reach both from the same side. Simples....:thumbs
Bounce the front a few times after adjustment, just to check, don't forget to tighten the lock nut.

:thumb2

The manual says that the measurement from the lower arm pivot to the bottom of the steering stop (vertical) should be 31mm (32mm swb) once adjusted. Sounds like lots of people have adjusted these, is this measurement ideal in practice? as ill be checking mine soon.

Hi lads! This sort of thing is new to me. Bit worried about cocking the whole thing up really. I've located the 2 nuts. Top obviously lock nut?, so do I want to be turning the bottom nut clockwise or anti clock wise?? ( in simple terms for a thick person like me to the top of the car or towards the floor?) yes before you laugh at me I know I'm stupid!! Many thanks. Chris!

Put two spanners on turn the top one anti clockwise and the bottom one clockwise, when the seperate keep turning bottom one clock wise to the desired hight, then wind the top nut down to bottom one and lock the back up together.
