Torsion bar adjustment

Just rechecked mine as I went a bit to fast up a grass/mud hill yesterday & hit a nice little bump & went air born & my wife ended up with mild concusion from hitting her head on the grab handle:doh:doh Thought I may have bent the torsion bars as we landed with such a bang but the measurement from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch lip is still the same on both sides at 18.5 which is what the reading was after adjusting the bars:thumb2

If I work to 15 at the arches do you think that would be ok.

Not sure what measurment you mean; 15mm difference between front and back? If so I'd say yes - some people get them level but that means any load in the back or towing heavy load and you end up pointing at the sky!

That exactly what I meant Lacroupade . I do a lot of towing so will avoid level

so I am winding the nuts up eg closer together and the adjuster at the back should be dissapearing inside the crossmember yes ?

I did mine with the the weight lifted off the wheels with a trolley jack. The results were instant. The front of mine was very low...

Just booked mine in for next monday to have the torsion bars adjusted and tracking done .


Hopefully will stop scrubbing the tyres on the inner edges which is has always done since new.

Only took me an hour and I am a mechanical F**ktard , also my tracking didnt change.

get them to do the arb bushes while your there

My way of thinking is it will cost me about 1/2 labour which I get discount on plus the wheel allignment which I'd have to pay anyway.

Added bonus is , job done right and I don't have to crawl under the car ;O)


Will get ARB checked but it was MOT'ed not long ago by the same guy so should be ok

It made a huge difference to the look of the truck when I binned the side steps. Much cleaner lines, and looks taller.

Totally agree - took mine off last week and much happier, especially as my five foot missus can't get in any more! LOL

Had the torsion bars reset at work today, cheers Nick, and what a difference. I took my steps off on saturday and might have to put them back on as wife and kids now finding it hard to get in (another 5ft wife)

Still booked in for Monday but only the tracking to do now ;O)
