Or a serial to USB converter...

I've downloaded that on my Nexus and bought THIS off eBay and I get readings off it.
Things like RPM, fuel flow rate, coolant temp., engine work (I think?) and a few others - seems to work for me. It also uses the built in GPS for MPG calculations. Not tried it on a journey yet

My engine light wasn't on, so I don't know if it can read errors. I did a scan for errors and it said there weren't any, so either it works or it's a coincidence?

Have been looking at the Torque app also. From the discussions on the Torque site it seems the app will work with some Nissans and not others. My understanding so far is that Torque is basically for use with the OBD system but Nissan uses the Consult system (I am open to correction on this but apparently the Nissan diagnostic plug is of the OBD type but the system is Consult) so not all aspects of Torque may work on Nissans. There also seems to be a difficulty with the bluetooth adaptors for Nissan. Seems some Nissans have OBDII compliant diagnostic plug and the cheaper ebay adaptors will plug into these. Some Nissans, especially older models, don't have OBDII compliant plug and Torque won't work properly with these, if at all, although it may be possible to get special adaptors that will fit the plug. I'm no expert on any of this though and you can't always rely on what you read on the internet so I await with interest the further replies on this thread.

:clap That's what I wanted. Yay.
Pro or Lite?

What year is your T2? What I want it for is for a way of getting accurate MPG without brimming it. Oh and nice to know how many donkeys it puts out.

:thumbs Good info that. Thanks. I downloaded the Pro version from ahem...:sly for testing purposes only, I will buy it if it works and support the Dev.

Tried it with the lite version first, just to check it worked and then got the full version - both worked fine. Mine is an X reg and 2001(I think)
I'll try and have a play tomorrow, but I'm notorious for making and breaking plans.

Trying to identify the right socket.

Is the grey plug the OBD to the far right?

As far as I know that is the plug to the far right. But according to some of the discussions on the torque site that plug type is the non-OBDII compliant one and the standard adaptors on ebay won't fit it and torque may not work with it properly if at all. I will be interested though to see if others on here have used torque with the same type of plug you have as that's the same plug as I have.

Is mine a 14pin plug then? What should OBD2 look like? How many pins?

Try the following link. On the second page of discussions down the page there are some pictures given of different types of nissan diagnostic plugs and comments on whether each will work with Torque and what adaptors.

I tried copying and pasting the images onto here but for some reason it won't work. If you can't find the page on the torque site let me know and I'll try hotobucket or something to get the images to paste on here.

Following has been copied from torque site. Note however that the info is provided by trackelectronics who sell connectors to fit the first type of plug shown.

If it looks like this, you will need specific Nissan Consult hardware (such as http://www.trackelectronics.com.au/consultBT).

If it looks like this, it should be OBD2 compliant and therefore supported by any ELM327 adapter.

And just in case you are not aleady confused here's some more info from the same place.

The OBD port on some Nissan cars is the same shape as OBDII but it is 7 pin and does not have the OBDII capabilty, this picture gives shows what it may look like -
<a href="http://s743.beta.photobucket.com/user/danielj2500/media/OBDII_zpsb2b92b0b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/danielj2500/OBDII_zpsb2b92b0b.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo OBDII_zpsb2b92b0b.jpg"/></a>

Just to confuse you Nissan changed from the orignal Consult port to Consult II on various models from the late 90s and it looks like this

<a href="http://s743.beta.photobucket.com/user/danielj2500/media/NissanX-TrailOBDConnectorSevenPin_zps13898005.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/danielj2500/NissanX-TrailOBDConnectorSevenPin_zps13898005.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo NissanX-TrailOBDConnectorSevenPin_zps13898005.jpg"/></a>

This is a Consult II OBD port on 2003 X-Trail YD 2.2 ETi
The Consult programme, what ever version, is dependent on a couple of factors including the make of ECU, this seems to have affected protocols.
Consult II will “talk” through a ELM327 but the language is limited, partly because of the use of only seven pins and the use of Consult II ( which is a close approximation to ISO 14230-4 KWP FAST I believe ) A Consult I will not “talk” to an ELM327 as far as I know, specialist wiring is needed, hence the need for the adaptor for Torque, and many other programs.
