I'm always in trouble somewhere so I might as well have my say...........
For all the fuss being made for a little off piste, it's pretty obvious that it's not marked.
If it's not obvious where the route is how can one be chastised?
Better to offer some time to put some signage out IF the powers that be will be gracious enough to allow it:eek:

when we went through there in September (The 3rd Derbyshire Heather Day) the route had new way markers all along it.
all other routes had been blocked off.
DONE AS PART OF OPERATION BLACKBROOK.

Sounds a bit like The Sarn in Wales...

The problem is if there arent clearly signed routes & others have strayed i.e. Strata then people tend to think they can choose which ever route they want.
I've done it myself when i 1st started.

Who ever leads the group should have the local knowledge or at least be able to advise the right & wrong route then its down to the individual if they wanna go off route & risk getting done, giving the 4x4's yet more agro, the froum & yet more amo to close the lane...

Nellie can vouch for my guidence in Wales :thumbs

Its an area that will always pi$$ people off.....

seriously there are members within the club who will gladly advise you some of your strata pics were also off piste. and he has very good knowledge and resources. oh and he has very good contacts throughout the uk

but as you say if some do others will follow and before you know it you have a duel carriageway.

personally im of a similar opinion as nellie tow the line be good boys even build a bridge for ramblers and if they are going to close it they will.
i have aired my views till im sick of it

but ffs edit your kin pictures so your plates are not showing

Hi all,
Im not looking for an argument here, & im responsible for my own actions right or wrong.
I totally agree with keeping to the code.

But if you do not want to cause damage to lanes- DO NOT WALK, CYCLE, OR DRIVE A 2 TON 4X4 on them, enough said now.

Nellie.

See you soon buddy & keep an eye out for my trips & your welcome anytime :thumbs

you are all big boys and girls , and you will do whatever you wish , but ... to post pictures of clearly visible number plates of vehicles going off piste is asking for trouble

The skill in off roading is getting from a to b across terrain that others can not. A secondary skill is doing it with as little damage as possible. Theres things you can do to ensure that. Not going back repairing it and getting a nice warm feeling.Thats the difference between professional off roaders and weekend warriors.

As far as going through puddles for a photo shoot goes................

Didnt we all used to do it on our push bikes when we were ten years old? it was fun then. A few decades on Ive moved onto and past far more involved things to get my kicks. However if ts what lights your candle make big splashes.

But just bear in mind youre trashing a bit of ground more than is necessary that is already softened. It is under attack from the freeze thaw cycle as its underwater. Surely a good hammering from a set of tyres carrying a 2 ton 4x4 aint gonna make any difference? ffs give your heads a shake folks. Its guaranteed to make sure you exceed causing minimum damage.

Point of that? do you need to hammer it through the puddle or would a more sedate considered approach be appropriate? depends how grown up you are or perhaps more appropriately you arent.

I visit the moors in a 4x4, on a mountain bike and on foot with the dogs so I have a pretty good all round view. Im more often more ashamed of 4x4 convoys I see than any other group.

Knowingly going off piste is entirely unacceptable and incredibly selfish and to post if you dont want to damage dont go there at all is petulant in addition.

guys, ive removed certain pictures from one of richos
posts and a further post with one picture completely.

lets move forward, after all its history now.

Exacerbated by it being an SSI :nono:nono:nono
SSIs are quickly binned to suit if the council finds there's money to be made there:doh
Half of Cardigan bay is an SSI but that was soon forgotten when oil was on the menu. :(

oh year cause you done plenty of skilled off roading to know what you are talking about, well 2 of my group do both front running landy's take part in triles across the country

also if you know the routes in question you will soon realize that they are not mud lanes apart from the 1 they are hard surface lanes

know you can get on your high horse and call me immature because i like to splash through the odd puddle, that is you prerogative, but i am pretty sure their is many a 4x4 owner that does like to splash through the puddles

you are more ashamed of the 4x4 convoys? am guessing you havnt seen a convoy of trail bikes then

now pindale still has the boulders on the lower steep mound but 1 is missing and but other than that their was only the post at the beginning of the lane to say dont go off route, the rest seem to have been removed

mistakes are made thats the only way we learn from them

Identifying areas to make improvements
Surveys have been done on all 180 non-classified highways in Derbyshire to ensure that efforts to improve the condition of routes are being targeted at areas of greatest need.

The current condition of each route was assessed as either:

•Sustainable
•Unclear
•May be unsustainable
For each of the 23 routes that fell in the ‘may be unsustainable’ category a comprehensive management plan will be drawn up analysing all the issues involved. This will be made up of five separate reports from:

•Peak District National Park Authority rights of way officers, conservation officers and area rangers
•A Derbyshire County Council highways engineer
•The Local Access Forum sub-group
The management plan will have targets for all the organisations involved to meet and the deadline for doing it by. The actions could range from putting up more warning signs, resurfacing, voluntary restraint, and temporary prohibition through to issuing a traffic regulation order that bans all traffic from the route.

The 23 routes identified will be looked at in turn with the most urgent cases being worked on first. Members of the Peak District National Park Authority will decide in September on the first few cases to be looked at.

They will be from this list (in alphabetical order):

Name of Highway / Location Parish
•Bamford Clough, Bamford
•Black Harry Lane, Stoney Middleton
•Bradley Lane, Pilsley
•Brough Lane, Brough / Shatton
•Chapelgate, Edale/Chinley

kind of makes you wonder , with everyone being so skilled why these experts require mud terrain tyres on hard surface lanes.
obviously putting the "they look well cool " thing aside ....mud tyres are the biggest problem for our lanes

perhaps it might be a good idea to start a thread ( if there isnt one allready ) about advice/laws/procedure for off roading for those who are new/havent tried it :nenau

unless you are tearing up a lane how can they do any more harm than at tyres or some one on a muddy lane with ht tyres pretty sure wheel spinning down lanes damages them just a little bit more

NO DISRESPECT

BUT

I don't think your enough in the know to comment on this subject as you don't green lane.!

I take the PI$$ out of caravans but don't attack them like you do when it comes to Green Laners.!

Just because you can read stuff you've google'd or read on other forums makes you far from in the know.!

Leave this heated topic to the people that do green laning & actually know what there talking about...

i.e.

ocelot
terranosaurus
extreme-4x4
daved
Thomas-the-Terrano2
nellie
Adz
iandouglas

& the list grows.!

unless you are tearing up a lane how can they do any more harm than at tyres or some one on a muddy lane with ht tyres pretty sure wheel spinning down lanes damages them just a little bit more

A mud tyre will obviously cause more damage than a normal tyre but saying that like daved already said, from a person to a 4x4 will damage a lane...

A mud tyre will grip & keep you moving but a A/T tyre may clog & spin (causing more damage than a mud tyre) & a road radial tyre WILL be SPINNING causing damage...

I think 2 wheeled motorbikes cause & go off piste more than any other byway user from what i have seen...

Take Strata for example... come to water (theirs loads of it) they make there own route around it...

I'm NOT attacking anybody or taking sides just sharing what i have seen & my view on it...

But as all of the off road people folk know & as Colin & Pete told me when i 1st got into it, its a very touchy subject that will always cause heated debate & arguments...
