i really love my car now its been sorted , but i think im not doing something right ,there is a road going out of brighouse towards huddersfield which is a long hill ( about a mile long ) and when im following sheila in her disco she dissapears up the hill in front of me and i cant catch her . if i put the mode switch in hold ( economy mode ) its even worse !!!! ....... in power mode all it does is rev its nuts off , goes up the hill faster , but still cant catch her ,... in auto mode it goes up the hill faster but is changing up and down all the time and she still disapears up the hill in front of me , kickdown just drops a cog for a second then it changes up again , the only way i have a chance of catching her is if i manually put it in second , but then i have to ease off the accelerator because the engine is revving too much ....... am i doing something wrong ? :nenau

NO :lol

Its normal mate

I can walk up hills quicker than mine goes up them lol

Its only the non intercooler 1's that suffer from i think :thumbs

its quite embarrasing being blown off up a hill by a 17 yr old disco tho :doh

Surely these things have either kick down or the option hold the gear so you can try different cogs rather than different modes

How many "forward cogs" does the box have ?

I got overtaken by 2 chavs on mopeds yesterday :doh
Now thats embarrassing

:wasntme :augie :lol

Auto or Manual...
Gutless as fook up hill :(
NITROUS :sly :naughty :D :augie :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

up hill

normal mate

If needed i drop it out of over drive. (button on the side of the gear stick, sorry if you already knew that)

If you keep the engine on the boil it will fly up a hill. lose momentum and you may as well have a cup of tea and a fag while u wait for it to reach the top.

Having spent the day a cheddar gorge yesterday I had a few cups of tea!!!

paulp

yeah Pete, seriously, this is normal. For a start, you are in a low power auto, Sheila has a much higher power engine and Auto in her Disco, what is it, 110/120 Bhp?? My mates disco used to fly, but you only have something like 90Bhp to play with. Mine is 125Bhp so have MUCH more power (have blown off a few discos and Freelanders so far lol) but I wouldnt expect much more than what you get. I know which road you mean, and like you say, its very long, and steep, and even my Mav goes a little bit slow up there. Best advice I can offer is to tighten up sheilas brakes whens shes not looking...

I used to think my old T2 was a bit slow up hills especially when towing, but the one i have now is a TDi rather than a TD and if anyhting they seem to have overcompesated as it is pretty quick. Though it is a swb with no back seats etc so i suppose is the lightest of the range.

Even the long wheel base TDi with the seven seats is quick enough up hills. Can roar up most hills a lot better than in my Mazda B2500 TDi.

Have to admit, just been looking for a newer T2 and can't believe how bonkers the prices have gone.....:doh

I don't know a lot about the pajeros but a friend has a 2.5 TDI pajero SWB and he makes out it is very heavy on the juice. Drove the 2.5 TDI pajero once and thought it was very sluggish compared to the TDI Terrano.

I'm surprised by that. Prices are still a bit higher this side of the pond but I thought prices have fallen through the floor for the T2 in the past two years over here. Think the problem is the ever increasing road tax on the 2.7 engine. If you want I will have a scan around some of the sites here if you want to suggest a year / model and price.

my nephew chris ( who knows everything about nothing lol ) told me to get a bigger turbo

ah but Dan, I suspect your prices were waaaay over the top to start with...as a guide, last year I paid £3300 for a 2002 SE+ with 60k-odd on the clock....today that would get me a bag of nails from what I can see. I was after a 2003-2005 truck, possibly SWB....

Your'e probably spot on that the prices here were way over the top to start out with. Won't tell you what I paid for mine nearly three years ago. You're more likely to get more of a choice with higher specs for a bit less money over there still I think. If its of interest to you to compare prices google donedeal.ie website and punch in Nissan Terrano. On there there is a very nice looking 2002/03 SWB in white with full Nissan service history for sale up in the North of Irl. About 80k on the clock I think (formerly owned by the BBC it says). No price given though. I regulalry check out the sellers of damaged / repairables for anything interesting and if I see anything interesting I can let you know if its of any interest. That's how I got the Mazda B2500 and it has worked out very well.

Hi mine is a 2.4 petrol and does it tow, coming back with Briggies truck on my trailer, gross train 4.8 tons, we flew, just come back from a race meet with a Mondao on the back together with tool boxes, spare wheels (6) rads, batteries, all sorts of junk and flew up the long hill into Ninfield at 50 no problems, the only problem is fuel, it does drink lots, but it does exactly what I want, a fantastic tow motor, with the bonus that I can get off a boggy race site when wet with the trailer fully loaded, I love mine to bits too, lovely to drive, I enjoy the tow to the track almost as much as the race, Rick
