So, actually emptied everything out and hoovered (yes that strange sucky thing!) the insides as I had to carry 6 adults to the airport last week. In doing all that I lifted up the carpet - oh dear, why oh why did I do that! Seems the double skin section is rotting away nicely so a repair or seven will be needed there. Anyone know if the New Zealand repair plate thing is obtainable here?

Also, while looking at the underside, I noticed the rear bump stop 'bits' on the chassis members don't look too clever. Picture of the worst on below - there is about 1/3 inch space between it and the chassis on one end - how important are these and how were they fitted?

My boot floor has been patched with ordinary sheet steel.

That bracket is the remains of the bump stop isnt it, think the rubber was bonded to that bracket originally.

My old 2001 was as rusty as yours, must have been a bad year.

Your bump stop has dropped off at some stage all that is felt in the metal part of it which would have to come off if you were going to fit a new one:augie

Cheers for that - thought it was a pointless bit of metal, well until I bend the chassis and/or the axle one day! (Would have to be on hell of a bump to do that though I'd have thought.

Firebobby, it isn't your old one is it? I bought it off Pete how previously sourced it from someone on here. Dark blue, reg starts X111.

The double skin that's going is the reinforcing plate for the rear seat mountings. I know that in NZ they have a plate specifically made up to replace that to keep the floor fully strengthened in that vital area, would love to just buy one of those to patch it up.
