Cant wait to try the motor mover. me and the lad will be fighting over the remote control :lol

We did look at another but the Air con and motor mover swung it for us:clap

lol im sure.. remotes are like gold!

Be a little badge on the back if it has :thumb2

How much does the aircon + mover weigh in at ? what payload does it leave you ?

Lots :lol:lol

My T2 is a 3ltr TD LWB so will probably not even know this is behind it.

Unladen Weight

Thats true dave VERY GOOD VANS, welcome also to the world of adventureTERRANOMAN

Nice van. It looks like the same layout as my Burgundy, but I don't have a toilet window.

I second the ATC thing. 100% stable towing... so far.

never had a van with ATC.. or a stableizer..

1005 stable. the then my van is ONLY 1241kg full up!

This is my first caravan, so I have nothing to compare it too, but before buying I was told loads of horror stories about the van snaking etc, so I thought seing as though it's fitted and the van was affordable it would be a good idea.

I did forget to engage the Alko hitch stabiliser down once and it did handle slightly different, so I am convinced its doing something, also we were overtaken by a very large HGV, and I'm sure the trailer control kicked in momentarily to keep it altogether.

That said though, I don't doubt you would be OK with it all turned off, arguably you might drive more cautiously.

I don't use them either, and i tow caravans in excess of 2.5 tonnes! I usually find the heavier they are the less they sway anyway. Lighter caravans tend to be affected by side winds and overtaking trucks much more.

and no stabiliser is a substitute for loading the caravan properly, and having the right tyre pressure!

can you tow 2.5t + terrano without being over weight or needing a tacho? does the t2 van get u cheap road tax like on navara?

Welcome to caravanning! I hope you enjoy yourselves, I certainly love mine and the holidays I have in it.

I don't have any stabilisers and no snaking problems but it's a twin axle and I find them much easier to two than singles. Just think about loading/noseweight and keep you tyres pumped up to the right pressure and same pressure all round.

Gadgets eat into your payload and I need all mine for bicycles ! :)

Hi Terranoman,

We have a 2005 Bailey Vendee , had it from new, and we spend loads of time away pulling with 1997 2.7 se or the 2003 2.7 se, no problem the van weighs in at around 1400 kilos pulls like a train, first time out this year was last w/end up to Conwy for weekend, hoping for many more this year, try Caravantalk for a good website to ask questions and maybe learn tips etc

The ATC is superb. Basically it is an electronic stability system. It is not a substitute for a properly set up rig and it is not a substitute for a stabiliser. Its on a parr with abs & traction control on your car.

It is a cross between a cars abs & traction control. It works very well indeed in my experience and the experience of others Ive spoken to and been aware of it working.

With us we were crossing one of the bridges coming down the A1 steady away, no signs of winds etc until we were half way across it and got hit dies on by a good gust. The van swayed and as i was reacting IT snapped back in line behind me. Gobsmacked.

In fact gobsmacked to the point I didnt believe it so a quick "wobble the caravan behind you" session on a local ind estate achieved the same result, absolutely bang on gadget and imho much underrated.

sounds good, a stabilising device that actually works - long overdue!

so how does it work then?

Unladen Weight

Sorry youve missed my point, i didnt word it well enough........

Your unladen is indeed 1248 BUT its now permanently loaded up with the weight of the aircon and the motor mover, something most people miss :thumb2

so for example a rhyno mover weighs from 30kg (from memory). An aircon generally weighs between 25kg (weedy one) up to about 45kg for a beefy one.Taking the middle figure that means youve used up at least 60kg ish of your payload before you put the awning on board for example (which will be big and heavy for your van poss around 30kg)

You can never lawfully or sensibly go above 1500kg and the absolute minimum weight of it is 1248 kg so your luggage payload is down from over 250kg to well under 200kg , ie 20%, irrespective of your tow vehicle or storage volume in the van. Not a problem unless you were anticipating the family junk taking up the whole payload

As able bodied competent drivers we have no intention of getting a motor mover (not needed and too heavy) but ive seriously considered aircon. However with a hefty full size awning, sunloungers, bikes etc etc the weight soon mounts up. Our vans just as bad. Its only got 221kg without fitting bits on but we're (very:lol) lucky, the now grown up kids and all their junk dont come away with us any more.

Just be aware :thumb2

before the T2 I had an 806, had to put some suff in the car then

not with the T2 ALL in the caravan

Enjoy your caravanning, we do. Ours is and old 12ft Award and we have had it for years, max weight 950k. I carry nothing in the van that is not in use, all is in the terrano.

I have on-board water, always carry a small amount and the toilet is ready to use. I drop the legs open the door step in and everything is ready.

We have a nice detached bungalow, live in a quiet area on the edge of the lakes but sleep better and feel happier when we are caravanning wherever we are home or abroad, odd aint it?

Regards bri
