Hi, i`m planning on changing the timing belt on my patrol 2.8 2000 reg, just like to know is there a kit available or is it just the belt, nissan don`t do a kit. if so would you recommend genuine parts or is the quality of the kits good enough. also does the water pump need to be replaced aswell. if anyone happens to know, what do these cost in the uk,the price of parts in ireland is just ridiculous

regards Donal

Donal you don't need to change the water pump and what do you mean by a kit?

You need to take all the drive belts off to start with, is that what you mean?

If I was home I could send you the full procedure via email from my manual, but I ain't home for 10 days.

:)

Hold on Its a timing chain fitted to the partols is it not ??????

Thanks for the replys, i have seen some kits advertised that include all the pulleys and tensioners. Do these need to be replaced or is it just the belt? Would it be wise to replace the water pump? A mechanic I know suggested that the pump should be replaced at the same time as the belt.

Had a look at that site Tezzer, they don`t list a timing belt fot the patrol, I`ll give them a buzz Monday. Thanks

would i be right in saying the 3ltr has a chain and the 2.8 has a belt?

The straight 6 diesel 2.8 has a belt,

Donal, if you want the mechanical section from the workshop manual emailing to you then PM me your email address.

I`ve pm`d my email to you toolbox, Thanks again everybody
