i have a brilliant car and we have loads of snow , but ... ive been using the disco ... why i hear you ask ...... because if i get stuck in my mistral im fuffed ... i dont have a front towing hook ( because of the massive oil cooler fitted ) ...... and i dont have a towbar .....its really nissing me off because i wanna play in the snow with sally :(

Don't get stuck then ? Stay on the roads, don't push it, you'll be fine.

i thoght all cars had to have 2 tow points 1 front and 1 rear ??

I wouldnt risk the disco  :lol :augie

Ya Mistral has 2 recovery points at the front & rear of the chassis :thumbs

Now go play :naughty

i think the front tow thingie ( technical term ) was " removed " to make way for the ferking great atf cooler ... well the rac man couldnt find anywhere to tow it anyway .... as for the rear one .... fuff knows ... rac wont tow backwards anyway he said

pete if you get stuck that badly you need rac you wont have a little van come for you lol you will have a flat bed and they have winches lol

I think you will find that the ones on the front are really for tying down the vehicle....I think this was gone into in some depth at least a year ago...I'll see if I can find it.

but how are they gonna winch me ? , what they gonna attach the winch too ?

there is two at the back and one at the front..

back ones are under teh bumper, each side,
front is a pig tail.

rac man couldnt find it when my brake flexi pipe broke :nenau

you shouldn't drag these forward any way iirc manual says rear wheels off the ground

Yes it was & they are for securing / tying down but as said at the time... They have been used with no problem for sensible recovery for years & as they are part of the chassis they are hardly going to fail...

you mean attach it to my bull bar ? ...... is that safe ?

:doh NO :doh

He means that the rear should be off the ground coz its an auto & towed on a dolly :thumbs

You should be able to be pulled backwards easy enough :thumbs

But why all the talk when ya still typing :augie Get out & play :thumbs

er no front pigtail is for h/d recovery. what look like rings at rear for tie down
are also h/d for recovery, ideally with a bridle strap between 'em.

possible front piggy lost or not fitted as can interfere with bull bar mounting.

would suggest for dragging onto a flat bed, part of the lower a frame would do
afterall some bull bars have 50 mm balls mounted for shunting trailers etc.

after that imagine could get a strap round IFS sub frame. looked at that on
an ambulance yesterday but the strap in tension would have ripped his
spoiler/bumper/bib off, or atleast damaged it.

Pete has it always had that bolted bar across bottom of a frame just under
plastic bumper? reckon could use that ideally very close to chassis rail
mounts or even round the the tube just as it starts to go up.

that
bolted bar , is my atf cooler :naughty

err ok, well round a bar tube then at bottom to reduce leverage

gonna make a strap under the i/c to the sub frame iffy too.

tbh mate big cooler great, location poor, if destroys virtually all
future recovery prospects.

perhaps a hole thru bumper, make shift towing eye, even permenant
mount be better.

the reason it has that big atf cooler is the previous owners fitted a manual rad :doh ... which was the cause of the gearbox going bang .. so now i have a manual rad with a atf cooler from a 4 litre rangerover .... cos i cant find a mistral auto rad ..... hope that explains things :thumb2

it is a daft place to put an oil cooler if i am honest

just think if you are on a country road and you hut a rock their goes all your gearbox oil

would have been better to put it where the number plate is so it was out the way
