I have mentioned in previous threads that there isn't such a thing as a stupid question or answer & I WAS a firm believer in this until today.

There's a lad of 18 that works in the warehouse who firmly believes that the minutes after 12.00 are longer than the minutes before :doh

So we were quizzing him regards minutes & hours. We asked him how many seconds there are in 1 minute, his reply "isn't it 30" :lol
He also didn't know that there's 60 minutes in an hour or why there's 24 hours in a day.
His answer was I'll Google it

How do folk actually get on in life

How do folk actually get on in life

A sad indictment of the state of the youth of today and testament to the lowering of standards of both examination standards and parenting standards.

On the up side, they're highly unlikely to challenge my business and threaten my livelihood.

So it's not all bad.

A genuine and serious suggestion given by a young but grown man to improve facilities on cross Solent vehicle ferries was to add pool tables. I could not bring myself to give a reply.

On the upside, my fiancée's lads are extremely bright & are both 19 tomorrow. They're quickly becoming qualified mechanics.
They have a trait though & that is that they can work out problems & not just plug in the fault code reader to see what it says & then replace the part.

Fortunately the youth aren't all bad

Have to say that I'm glad to tell you that not all young people of today are so wet behind the ears. I'm a firm believer in youth organisations for young people. The difference it makes is amazing but sadly it isn't for everyone. Maybe the poor chap should have been a member of one of these organisations, trouble is it probably isn't a cool thing to do.
I'm really looking forward to this summer as I have about a dozen young people competing for four places on our first aid team which will be entered into competitions. Also got 25 young people going through bronze or silver Duke of Edinburgh awards. Hopefully these people will go on to join the work force and society and stand head and shoulders above and hold there own in this bad old world we live in.

So take comfort from the thought that not all young people will make you feel bad.

You are, of course, quite correct. Having done ages 8 to 21 in a youth organisation I know where you're coming from. I also have done the St.James palace chin wag with "Phil the Greek ".

Sadly it is true that these organisations are not considered fashionable, and many parents dont seem to care about child development as much as child appeasement. Just been working at a property where the father yesterday spent the morning cleaning paint off the bedroom carpet of his teenage son, before making the bed for him, picking up his clothes off the floor and then cleaning the paint off the bathroom sink and wall where his son had cleaned his brushes. Today? well he spent the morning doing it all over again. I suspect this will be repeated tomorrow.

Well trouble is it is far too easy to be soft and do too much for them as a parent and I know that through personal experience. That's the beauty with these organisations. As some of you know the organisation that I am a member of is Air Cadets but I think any of the organisations are good for young people's development. Got to say it's great seeing these youngsters well turned out in smart uniform and shoes you can see your reflection in. Maybe I'm old fashioned but they really do seem to take pride in their appearance which I'm sure carries across into their ordinary lives.

Sounds like those lads are doing well. Computers have their place but sound mechanical diagnostic abilities and knowledge will stand them in good stead and to my mind make their skills more transferrable.

They've been taking all manner of stuff apart & rebuilding since about four years old.
They used to repair the other kids phones & consoles in secondary school.
Stripping & rebuilding engines since about 10 years old.

To give you an idea....... Brandon took an exam at college that was timed at 2.5 hours. It took him just twelve minutes & he got 100% much to the teachers astonishment.
