tea caddy by Ted Bagshaw, on Flickr

Whilst clearing out the Father-in-Laws house the wife brought home a tea caddy that used to belong to her Grandmother.

It's of no financial worth but steeped in sentimental value as Wendy & her Grandma were very close. Judging by the lid that has a bright red plastic knob it was probably made between 1958-1965. It has a rolled joint on the side for the cylindrical section, with tin plate type tags holding base in position.

What shocked me was the condition of the Chrome it looked brand new - unlike the dried tea eaves inside.

they certainly don't make things like they used to, it looks like it has some nice etching on the side aswell, this is where they would usually start to discolour or flake

Money definitely isn’t everything and to me this so valuable that you need to fill it with teabags and use it everyday, enjoy the memories and a nice cuppa.

Sadly there won’t be many household items these days that will last five years because we live in a disposable society.

TLC & Tea Bags added !

Just gave the "Tea Caddy" a light polish with some Solvol Autosol, now loaded with some Tea Bags ready for morning brew.

The craftman that made that is most likely long dead and buried too, what I love about older items like this is the legacy that one fabricator left behind him.:thumb2, the skill and the care that went into a little item to hold tea is beyond modern day comprehension.

I agree, get it used, that's what the fabricator would want you to do:thumbs

cheers

And use it we have it's now the storage unit between cup and packet!

I am amazed that the red plastic knob seems as new still - even the plastic was better if its not something more akin to bakerlight.

I have to disagree,i think the knobs these days far surpass the ones from the 60's:lol:lol

I have to agree as there were some real knobs in the news headlines yesterday but I fear I am going off topic.

Great tea caddy macb, absolutely great to see items like this still being used instead of put away and forgotten about.
