hey guys,

does anyone know if the thermostat housing has a gasket on the part that fits over the waterpump housing? the part marked in the photo..

I have a leak that appears to be from this area, but I don't want to start taking it apart only to find I do or do not need a gasket (trying to be prepared for the job)

yes you need a gasket, i just used cereal packet covered in grease been on there 2 years now with no probs

cheers chaps, I reckon that's the problem so I will make that my job for next weekend. I will order some more gasket paper as I have run out of the correct thickness!

The problem with the Thermostat housing assembly shown, is that it bolts to two different assemblies made of two different materials that are also bolted together.
This is quite a challenge to seal when you think about it, especially when there is a great temperature change with different metals, each with different temperature coefficients of expansion etc
Well that's cleared that up..:augie

:lol
