Thermostat and water control valve help

Hello folks.

I took the lower thermostat off and the upper water control valve also to replace. Taking them both with me to the shop. Problem is i cant remember what way they go and what one is what.

I think the thermostat (that the lower radiator hose goes to) goes in with it spring going into engine so it opens into engine...

....and i think but dont know, the water control valve that the top radiator hose goes to is the higher temp one, with the spring opening towards the housing, opening AWAY from the engine?

But i have confused myself and buggered myself over.

Anyone able to tell me?

Well you have certainly confused me! I only know of one thermostat on the top of the head at the front, three bolt Ali or plastic housing stat sits in here spring down, Know nothing of the other one, Rick

OK, I am confused... what car is this on? on the 2.7 T2, there is only a thermostat under the 3 bolted cap, and it goes in spring down.

Eh what. 2!!! Like the others I only know of the one thermostat. Your gonne need to show pics of this
