I have been struggling a little with the running costs on the rolling restoration lately. (you all know how it is with cost of living blah blah).
Now we have had a tempory? income drop and the Trol needs quite a bit of welding, has a leaking fuel pump and several other jobs, so I have made the decision to take the old girl off the road. :(
This means car sharing with the wife for now. Me and the wife have had a chat and think that when we can it will be taxed for 6 months of the year and share towing duties with a large estate car that will hopefully be better on fuel.
We don't wish to sell the Trol as she is like a member of the family and we have sold too many cars in the past that we have regretted later.

Anyway I will still be visiting my favourite forum, I might need some know how:augie:D:bow

Sorry to hear that, but pleased to hear that you're keeping the Patrol.

Hopefully you will be able to get the work done as time and funds allow and put it back to good use.

I'm really fortunate that mine is rust free, but it hasn't stopped me spraying more wax into the sills and underneath, just a shame more weren't done like that when they were new.

I bet the fuel pump is a 99 p "o" ring that fails at the back of the pump housing.
you could change it if your very careful, otherwise, like me, it will be a pump rebuild and that cost me£311 inc VAT but that did include full gasket set and calibration.
Been there and got that Tee shirt:(
Best of luck with the rest.:thumb2

Cheers guys and I think you could be right about the fuel pump and the o ring.:thumb2 Think getting another tow barge is the way we are going. I can then do the work at my leisure. I am thinking of the situation as semi retirement for the old girl, and keep her for hi days and holidays. It doesn't sound so bad that way:D

Well ive got another tow barge-2002 ford transit 100 t280 converted to crew cab. should be a lot better on fuel and can get all our gear and dogs in it.

The Patrol is alive again:D. The brother inlaw has got the Trol to sort fuel pump for me. He has bled the fuel through. it appears that it would not bleed after filter cleaned out due to the svo that was in it. he put some fresh diesel in and with bit of fettling she came back to life:D.
The strange thing is that the leak seems to have stopped:confused:

Anyway im pleased that one job is sorted:)

nice one, good vans, but the starter motor and rot are weak spots

Patrol

The more Patrols I see knocking about the more I wish I had one they look such solid brutes with the pleasant aesthetics of a hand made Victorian house brick ! (Plan B)

Plan C was to find a Cherokee Commander (another brick) but they are thin on the ground round here and not exactly cheap.

Still got to stick with the Santa Fe awhile (Plan A) for the next 3-4 years unless she turns into a money pit in which case its Plan B or Plan C.

Next week is the first test for the Santa FE its a run to Calais with a stop over and back fully laden with the Red Elixir of Life and some 1664 gold !
