I noticed yesterday that the beam diffuser that sits inside the headlight has come off its mounting and is sliding around.

This is for the square headlight model.

It looks like the leg that holds it in place has come loose. I'm sure if you get your fingers inside you could just plug it back in.

Has anyone had to fix this or done this?

I'm not sure how much a new headlight would cost, but I'm sure it's not going to be cheap. and I'm sure it will fail the MOT?

I'm guessing that it'll mean a replacement headlamp unit. Remember there will be a lot of heat build up from the bulb so even if you could get access to try and fix it back in place any glue would have to be heat resistant.

I've just looked up the price of buying a second hand light unit

I guess I will have to try and fix the old one.

I know someone who is a gynacologist - I'm thinking of asking them if they can fix it :D

Did have some but sold them very rare and expensive even second hand you will be looking around the £100 mark

£100!! I had 2 spares in perfect nick in the shed from my old Maverick and I gave them away :doh

Ah well..... Karma, I did someone a good turn... come on Eurolottery Pixies! Perfect time for doing me a good turn! :lol

Not seen that particular headlight up close, but on a lot of headlights, the glass is held in place with silicon sealant. You can use silicon remover to break the old stuff down, separate the glass from the reflector, and then when you have finished adding your "Angel Eyes"... er, I mean fixing the defuser, you can then just use a quality silicon to re-seal it all back up. just make sure you clamp it up to get the glass back square and flat.

I also read that a good way to safely cut the silicon with out damaging the glass etc, is to use a needle to poke fishing line through the silicon and back out the bulb hole, then use a sawing motion to cut the silicon, but I never needed to do that, as a scalpel and silicon sealant remover did the job.

The older shape lights are cheap. It's the newer shape that are expensive and rare. There is currently only one on ebay (wrong side) and its £150

I don't have the bottle to find out what the stealers want for one

That is a good idea thanks.

I have been thinking of finding or making a long thin pair of curved pliers to grab it and then force it back in the hole.

It's the sort of job that would only take 5 seconds if the lens were removed.

If I can't do it with a special tool I will certainly have a go at separating the unit like you said.

Either that or find someone who makes ship in a bottle to do it, my gynacologist friend is busy at the mo :D

I removed the headlight glass on a Micra using a hair dryer to warm up the sealant ( it wasn't silicon) and a Stanley blade to cut the sealant and you slowly pry the glass away. Quite easy once you get it moving. You should be able to warm the sealant back up again to seal the glass back in place. There were metal clips that also held the glass in place.

I had to do this for my Fiesta, tester said it failed on this as my headlight was misaligned and would fail it unless I brought a new headlight cluster

I smacked it in the oven for 3-4 mins on full whack, opened the seals with a flat head screwdriver and popped it back on and Voila :D :thumb2

He wasn't happy that I'd fixed it and had no other option but to pass me

Just an update.

1 pair of curved pliers and 5 mins got this all fixed :thumb2

If it comes loose again I will put some epoxy resin in the hole first.

Thanks for your suggestions.
