As said. having done a 300 mile round trip to Devizes and back with a car trailer I have to say driving was very hard in that a very large part of my concentration was looking for pot holes, even with the empty trailer it was a nightmare, but coming back with it loaded was so much worse, pot holes on A roads is bad enough, but on motorways is totally unacceptable, I found myself swerving at 60 MPH in order to miss them, now anyone towing a heavy trailer will know that is not a good maneuver, but at motorway speed could be disastrous, but what of the guys with super low profile tyres? it beggars belief, what is going on with this country, they are getting the same taxes from motorists as before but not spending on the roads, this this madness, is it going to take a motorway pile up with multiple deaths due to a pot hole to bring our rulers to their senses, to be honest I doubt it, they all have their snouts in the trough and do not give a damn, rant over, Rick

I agree, I had the same conversation with Suz the other day, when she it a hole, luckily it was not to big for her tyres to ride out, but still Jared the car.

Then a couple of days later we were coming back from Suz's dads through Esher, and there was a line of 5 expensive (ish) cars parked half on the pavement with their hazard lights on and some that I could see, had 2 flats, then about 100yds up the road behind them was a police car with it's rear blues on, guarding a huge hole... We had passed it in the morning, and I saw it in enough time to tell Suz, so that she swerved round it.

There was one somewhere on the A21, between Sevenoaks, and Tunbridge that made it into the local paper as it did cause an accident, and also damaged a load of cars..

It’s our corrupt system that we live in. Bugger all we can do about it. I’m pretty certain the authorities are getting enough money to repair roads out of road tax and fuel tax too. You’ll also notice that when anything comes up in the headlines the government dislikes they replace with a smoke screen such as by 2040 we might ban plastic or diesel cars are so bad for your health which sends the media into a spin and ignoring the real headlines.

My rant over but whole heartedly agree with you Rick.

On the brightside of not spending on repairs you can still see the chipped kerb stones and lines across the tarmac pavement outside Fred Dibnahs drive from his roller.

Not only UK though - we have our Seat Leon on 18" wheel now for 2 years, and all 4 wheel rims are nicked from potholes. Have to realign the car at least once a year...

I am currently sueing Swansea council for a man size pot hole. Big enough that it broke my Merc near side spring and destroyed the drop link.
Road tax doesn't exist anymore by the way.

I think not enough people are taking action against councils for damage due to pot holes, if they did I am sure it would push the councils to do repairs rather than pay out tens of thousands in claims, one of the problems is they make it very hard to make a claim, ie initially they deny all responsibility and probably most people give up at that early stage, I had a claim a couple of years ago and correspondence went back and forth many times, all the while denying they were at fault, so my last letter simply said OK see you in court, they paid my £200 claim very quickly, Rick

It may not be called road tax anymore, it may go under the name of road fund license or whatever but it’s still a tax or charge you pay unless you have somekind exemptions.
People still refer to it as road tax I believe :nenau

You still pay it, just you don't get a little round receipt to put in the windscreen anymore.

The Peugeot I drove was excemt, as was the Honda. Plenty of cars don't pay VED as their emissions are so low. Much like my bikes too. :D
The roads are shocking and there really is no excuse. This country in many ways is heading closer to being third world. The question is why. Why do we allow a few to become richer while the rest of us struggle? Why do we continually elect those who we know will shaft us while selling us some rubbish. I understand that the NHS is being offered up for sale at the moment as part of a US trade deal. Well done us!
On a very simple level, it was commonplace to complain about the TV Licence at £100 odd per year. How pleasurable is advert free TV against to £360 odd we are likely to be spending on subscription TV. We're stupid.
I'd be more than happy tpo pay a few quid more inj tax if I could see it going back into the community. I don't.
Rant over.

So....

Don't pay any tv subs. If I want to watch something I use freeview or Kodi .simples.
As for why we put up with the state of the nation, ask the voters
