paint but make sure the decorators whitewash the walls first on new plaster otherwise your walls will look like they have scabies

Good advise, I call it a soaker coat, water mixed with emulsion and painted onto the (dry) new plaster, new paint sticks better and doesn't dry on contact :thumb2:thumb2

I added PVA with ours as well, helps to seal the walls, and provide a better base coat. In our house, they just painted onto the bare walls, and after 30 odd years of being over painted, it all flaked off back to bare plaster again.

PVA mixed with water does the same job but better and is cheaper, Rick

ok , after a mainly one sided " discussion " with her who must be obeyed at all times without question  , " we have decided " to save up for wallpaper , despite my protestations .

when I say " we have decided " what I really mean is Sheila has decided

I think a compromise is what's needed here so it's got to be stenciling. You with your favorite logo's on 2 walls and you wife with her favourite designs stenciled on the other walls yours would include the Terrano logo's I'm sure, it would be ( i think the term is ) Funky,
I'm sure members could come up with suitable ideas !!!!!!!

Democracy in action:clap:clap:clap

I always put up lining paper 1st then paint stops the walls soaking up the paint :thumb2

Why not paint the whole place first to tidy it up while you save up for paper
Magnolia for the walls and white for the ceilings both colours cheap from diy places
You could just paper one wall in rooms as a feature wall save on rolls
Is there no local groups that would provide labour if you provide the materials like a local collage with kids that are learning decorating

perhaps people don't quite understand ..... Sheila ( sorry we :augie ) has made her ( our ) mind up after a democratic debate ( argument )

A woman can say more in a sigh than a ......man in a lifetime,
