Thought I'd start a thread about our family truck.

I never wanted to get another Patrol, I was looking at other 4x4's and was really wanting a Jeep. Couldn't really find anything that was right.

Then one came up with the 4.0 engine that I wanted and was really low mileage. Went to the garage to have a look and low and behold it had issues where I knew the garage was just talking rubbish, "yeah it never done that before, you must be bad luck" kind of comments. Ok, I'm out of here.

Yvonne was really wanting a SWB too, so easy to nip about town so Banshee's SWB 3.0 Terrano went to the top of the list.

At this point we stumbled upon an advert for a Nissan Patrol, mmm, looks alright. Not far away either. I might go have a look.

Looking at the truck it was soon needing new tyres and the CD changer didn't work whuch housed to get money off, but that was it.

I couldn't find any rust whatsoever, none.
One ladyowner from new.
81,000 miles
Absolutely full, comprehensive service history only a few thousand miles apart, all stamped. Done as I liked as in mileage didn't matter it was just serviced every year on the dot.
I looked up the MOT history and ithoght there must be a mistake. All the way from 2005, not even one advisory noted, nothing. That was until I bought it and the garage got it MOT'd and it got a shock absorber advisory. Bugger lol.

It was all too good. It was a lwb Patrol in the colour I didn't really like too much but I just had to buy it, I think it was a one off.

And here it is...

First thing I wanted to do was to protect the car.

I found a restoration company very close by which was a bonus

https://pro-tectservices.co.uk/

They are a Dinitrol approved rust protection treatment centre.

These guys gave me the news I was hoping for. They had seen cars 4 years old that were in worse condition underneath. I'll have that.

They gave the Patrol their very top service of protection :bow

Nice one!

Looks like my Y61 before she got modified :thumb2 Same age too.

Exactly the same mate. 2004 but this is an auto :thumb2

That's a lovely looking truck mate, I may have one of those soon :augie

Elty will be a 2 Terrano household again on Sunday :naughty

No, this is the blue one we had in Wales :thumb2

We have the red one and this blue one.

Big Red and Big Blue :lol

As I said, the suspension was shot. I didn't realise how uncomfortable it was until I sat in the back seat and it just crashed and banged going down the road.

I always like trying different products but there was an advert on Ebay for a Pedders setup. It wasn't the complete setup, it was 2 inch springs, castor correction bushes and spring spacers all brand new.

I watched the advert for ages and it didn't sell. After time I thought I'd put a cheeky offer in and it was mine. I think it was under half price and all brand new. The guy sold the Patrol and ended up not fitting the kit.

Happy days!

I still needed to complete the kit though, and once again I wanted to try something different for the shocks. I thought IronMan shocks, they have a great rep.

However, I was on the phone to Pedders as I wanted a price for brake lines and they told me they had a set of their top level 4 inch foam cell shocks that had been test fitted to a vehicle and taken straight back off again. so effectively brand new. I said how much and they said they cant sell them as new so would sell for half price......Bloody hell I couldn't believe my luck :clap

So full brand new Pedders 2 inch suspension kit with 4 inch foam cell shocks for half price. I also upgraded the kit as follows:

2 inch springs
4 inch shocks
20mm spring spacers
Castor correction bushes
Radius arm spacers
Extended brake lines
Extended brake bias bracket

Dinitrol, Waxoyl, etc - good move.

Wow "Dinitrol" that's a product name from the past. When I was in new car sales (full time) between 1973-1979 virtually all our new vehicles were sold with aftermarket rust proofing applied locally when the new cars were sold.

Warranties varied as did prices - later manufacturers factory treatments improved so much that it became unnecessary for most Marques especially those with Galvanised Bodywork. That said sometimes even Mercedes had issues with their 25 year body warranties - famously the old W210 E class had a production line fault that cost them a lot of money when the body shell dipping process faulted when production speeds were changed on the assembly lines causing poor coverage inside the box sections etc due to insufficient immersion in the dip tanks - the drain holes were too large!

I have always done something to try to stop under body rot with virtually every vehicle I have owned including both our Jeeps.

Only a Dream for us two Trols...................

Thanks guys, we are happy with it so far.

As much as I have grown to like our Jeeps I secretly wish they were both Patrols.

One day ...............................
