I took this photo of my drive, as the odd connections between the cars struck me, does anyone else know the strange manufacturing connections? :nenau

They are each built with 4 wheels.....:thumb2

Same size wheels ? All have been involved wth Ford somewhere along the line ?

looks to me you need a bigger drive...

or kick some people out...

Briggie is the nearest! No, none on finance, I don't even do credit cards or mortgages only cash. But the British built thing is very near!

1, (09) Citroen, French car Citroen HDI engine, Citroen running gear
2, (10) Mazda, Japanese car, Mazda engine Mazda running gear
3, (11) Volvo, Swedish car, Citroen HDI Engine, Mazda Running gear
$,(52) Nissan, Japanese car, but aren't the built by French company Renault? if so back to he start of the loop.

It's a funny old world isn't it?

think renault and volvo bed hopped at some point.

as didnt the smaller front wheel drive volvos have renault
engines,

renault and citron, indeed pugeot share lots of parts, they
are are sort of french BL on the very quiet.

mazda generally work with ford though of course the first
mav was nissan the second was mazda.

wonder if ford are the most bed hopping of all manuf.
they are pretty canny really, worked with VAG on the galaxy/sharon.

nissan and mazda as above.

then look at vans, the renault front wheel drive carries vauxhall
badge, the vivaro?

LDV seem to or did sell lots of stuff previously badged by others.

daewoo now GM was partly caught up with fiat.

oh ford had lr and jag, didnt ford have volvo or was that gm,
or was it saab that was gm.

It all goes to show, that you don't know WTF you are really buying :nenau

well how far off is the world car.

when they all merge.

seem to feel the kia and hyundi are or were
sponsered by the japs, certainly in other fields
they have helped them out, ie sony > lg?

isnt mazda part of ford, rather than working
together, as the fiesta was a mazda 121 or vv.

arent the modern transits built by peugot,
even 20 odd years a go the sierra diesel had
a pug motor, a form of evolution.

oh ref the frog BL, that issue with passengers
acting the brake pedal on cit/ren/pug, same
crude conversion of lhd to right, same cost
cutting not having a panel to protect the
mechanism.

I'm currently thinking about buying a classic, a car or a commercial, I know where i stand with contact breaker points :doh

and there's a fair chance i can get something that was all made on the same continent :augie

One of my mates has just bought a lovely old Mk1 Transit truck with a 2.0 pinto (well he swapped it for 2 horses) it's only done 50k (ish) miles and I quite fancy getting one, but will the reality of driving it change my mind

If you go back to the 70's, when most cars on the road were built in Britain, nearly all parts were interchangeable except some body panels.
Even then there were several versions of the Mini, Riley Hornet, Wolsley elf etc. OH and the Mini Moke (The Prisoner).

Head lights were round 6" or 7" diameter and made by Lucas.
Dynamos and Voltage regulators were basically the same.
Fuse boxes with 2 x 35 amp fuses.
Only a few sizes of batteries.
Windscreen wipers nearly all the same.
Lights, like on the old Minis and Landrovers were round made of glass and held in by a rubber surround.
Keys, you could buy off the shelf from Halfords by Number eg FS 123
Panel meters and dials made by one manufacturer.
Distributors and caps, coils and points, only a limited selection.
Lucas panel switches, that you could buy rubber extensions for.

I guess looking at Caravans as well things have changed. The lights used to be common bolt on to the rear as an after thought, now they are bespoke, and expensive.

Are things better...... I'm not sure, but you spent most of the weekend under the bonnet of those cars. :nenau

I used to carry a spare distributor, with new points, rotor arm, leads etc, on a mini it was 1 clamp bolt and I scratched an alignment mark so that the timing was right.
I could then sort out the old one later.

This saved many a breakdown, as it was nearly always one of those items that caused the problem. ( Apart from that Damn by-pass hose...)
