Hi All,

As claimed in my first thread I am starting a slow build thread :thumb2
The bus is 2.8 TDi with 120k on the clock. I have found it in London few moths ago and it has been very neglected. Decided to get it anyway and the repairs started. Had to do some welding first as rear arches and sills were no more :)

Arrived on the back of the trailer - guess the towing vehicle had a bit of a struggle...

First wash with work at height equipment....:D

Lick of paint after welding: - Local guy

Looking a bit fresher after repairs

It came on 3" suspension lift. As for the engine it was sluggish when I got it, but after few drives it seems to be much better. I have blocked the EGR and removed the throttle plate from the IC - tiny bit better for response.

As it didn't like cold starting I was investigating the issue. It turned out that brand new set of glow plugs I have put in died almost instantly....after checking few things it seems that relay is fine but there the power to the plugs stays on forever after starting the engine....Can't seem to find what else controls it.
No issue - going for push button mod :D bypassing OEM glow plug system

Next thing was to start thinking about MOT. Not that I was in a rush as I could not get V5 from DVLA anyway. Previous owner (&^%£&^) declared the car exported right before he sold it. It took some time to get the paperwork...
Back to MOT prep. I have noticed that rear calipers stick. Time for rebuild

Both sides done. During the job I have noticed that rear solid brake lines are not so solid any more in places - got my mechanic to make new ones for few £. Also front wheel was a little bit loose on the bearing - No problem - simply adjust it. Excellent system - can be done without taking the wheel off!

Patrol flying through MOT

Cleaned up the front lamps as well as made proper waterproof plugs for the wiring just behind the grill - sprayed black!:D

Although current wheel set up may be good in off roading I simply could not stand the look of it....time came for some new rims and rubber

Got 16x8 steels with 285 75 16 MTs (maybe gone a bit too far:D)

Muuuch better than 235 75 16 MTs - (5 tyres for sale)

Since I could not drive the Patrol yet as always my Saab came to aid the project

Good job I go to the gym here and there as otherwise I would not be able to fit those wheels....:D

Saab also delivered a every nice roof rack by Cruz Safari - found it really cheap.

Back to mods. I have managed to find a snorkel - rather cheap as well. One day decided to give it a go. I have sacrificed the std aerial - but hey

So here it is now:

There is still plenty I want to do need to take it slowly from now. I hope you like it :thumb2

Great looking car and nicely done. Did you treat the rust on the inner wing whilst you had the wing removed?

What on earth was that seller doing declaring it as exported? Could of got really nasty with the DVLA.

Quality. I'm liking these more every time I see one on here getting saved. Well done. Looking forward to seeing what you have in store next.

That is spot on, good job. What tyres are they, I've not seen them before. How is the road noise?

Thanks All,

I have not done the inner arches yet as will be getting some new wings soon.

As for the tyres - Silverstone MT 117 Sport - a bit noisy but I guess I can live with that.

Just sone front bushes - photos below

Set of bushes:
Front arms
Rear arms
F+R Panhard

So far only front ones are done. 12t hydraulic press is a minimum for this.

20 minutes later

And final result

I did have a look at rear arms....well...spent about an hour freeing up one big bolt...just to find out that it won't come out. It is the longest bolt on lower arm going into the frame. It seems bent...will have to cut it out and get a replacement....

Will see what other 3 bolts have to offer...:D

Very nice machine, when I grow up I want one of those.......:thumb2

Right, I have managed to get all bolts on other 3 arms loose and even completed bushing if one upper arm. I have ordered new long bolt from Nissan - £10 so not too bad :thumb2
They need to get it from Europe so it will be a while...:nenau
Seems like evening for cutting :thumb2

Removed the rest of tow bar... will clean it up and paint :thumb2

Up for grabs if any wants it. I think I may have the wiring somewhere as well.

that's a good looking truck. looks tall with 3" lift does it have adjustable panhard rods??

No it hasn't therefore the wheel line sticks out on one side more then the other :)

I won't be investing in that as once it's adjusted it's never touched. I will get the rods extended instead

Rear arms in new powder and poly bushes

Following a bad leak from one of the hubs I have decided to go all the way. All bits being removed now and awaiting rebuild - including front calipers.

More photos to come

Great thread, good pics, everyone loves pics.....good to see your own skills being used...

I hope this can be helpfull to someone at some point. So far all front axle removed. All seals and bearing ordered.
I have a feeling this will be my biggest project :D Mechanically I can do a lot myself. I will struggle however with the frame. I'd love to recondition it but can't do it on the drive....

Also the roof rack came back from powdercoating. Over 80 parts to put back together :thumb2
