They are nice and well kitted in terms of stuff to get you out of trouble, but you got to ask whats the point when they cost such stupid money, even for a sh1t-up old 'un.....

I mean a new one is more than a Range Rover but with a depreciation curve that you could play snooker on, while the price of a ten year old example in good nick would buy you 7 or 8 Terranos of the same vintage??? :doh:doh:doh

Just don't get it myself...

know a chap who has new version ml is it? he uses it to tow his diggers because the splinter vans he loves so much wont pull them lol.our local merc dealer in stratford ignored him when he wanted it so went to gerrard man in cov 3 nrew vans jeep 7.5t and 17.5t later they couldnt wait to butter him up lol he sticks with cov dealer though!

If you mean the ML the only thing it has in common is the badge - totally unrelated vehicle.

The G-Wagen is still available new and costs from 60k to over 100k; I doubt your man is towing diggers with one of them!;)

no its one the newer ones mls hes had about 4 of them now major merc freak way back he had 308 and 410 vans with boxy fronts the 17.5tonners got a winch for pulling skips up onto back instead of conventional arm. youve never seen builders vans so clean he has the lads clean them daily lol his units the same immaculate lol!

I think the very latest ones have improved but prior to the last 2-3 years they were expensive and unreliable. Still, if he's making the money good luck to him...I wouldn't want to be the next owner though, can you imagine whyat dragging a digger around has done to it....

G Wagon

This is the vehicle I use for business purposes. It belongs to the boss but I use it daily as he has other vehicles to play with.It has only done 37000 miles and is in mint condition.Petrol though so thirsty.Lovely to drive but not that great in mud.Pretty good on ice and snow.:augie

Thats you off my Xmas card list then :lol

While I might think they are overpriced, it doesn't mean I'd love one! So I now hate you with a pash! :)

Can you remind us what kit its got? I seem to recall they have diff lockers etc..?

Yes, they have 3 manually lockable diffs- front rear and centre.

The 5 cyl 3.0 l diesel is unbelievably slow though, even with an aftermarket turbo kit pushing it up to ~130hp.

Off road it must have a lot of talk :naughty

Plenty of torque but when all the gadgets are locked up it is virtually straight line only as grunts and groans if you turn too sharply. Not happy in a reverse turn either. However if you are on a slippery slope it is just the business and brilliant in snow and ice. This one has dual purpose snow tyres so no problem there.Went to Merc for MoT(no more) and they replaced the lower control arm.Took them 4 attempts to get the wheel alignment right. The first time they delivered it the roadholding was frightning.Must be the tyres they said,my arse said I,the front wheels are visibly facing outwards.Good old dealers, reliable to the end.
Also very rock and roll on a country road but always feels secure. She is a heavy old girl though and if you push the gears(auto) you won't get any change out of 20mpg.
I do enjoy driving it though especially when giving Landy drivers the occasional posh wave.:naughty
