hi there, not had my terrano 2.7 that long, ive noticed when on motorways i often cruise along at 60mph which is the the speed you often get caught up with artics, the section i use has a slight incline so i decide to increase speed to 70mph this seems to take forever to pass those wagons , im not really sure if this is normal or its just the case of a heavy 4x4 mmm

Simple answer YES, might just need a good thrashing m8 to clear it`s innards.

Should be banging along without a sweat at 70 :doh Is yours a TDi
Check air filter and MAF then see if you've got a mini filter on yours.
T2 is quite a nippy 4x4 so yours is poorly I'd say

My 16 1/2 year old Td easily cruises at 70 mph, it's only the thought of fuel consumption that I drive slower.
It can cruise at 90mph (on private test tracks clearly) it has even reached 100mph on the Sat Nav,( for short bursts only) but the revs really clear out the crud and it runs better after the thrashing.

At speeds over 70 mph you really need to think where your fuel stops will be though.
In fact the time wasted filling up with fuel, you could have got there sooner and cheaper, at a much lower speed by not having to fill up as often. :doh

On a motorway, what sets your minimum speed are the lorries, I try to avoid the outside lane, but usually stay there if there are too many lorries overtaking each other with a speed differential of 0.5 mph, or even less.

my T2 runs at 60mph, or 2800 rpm......... and on long runs, returns better than 32mpg, mind you, the speedo says 70, the gps, 62...........

Running on michelin (rear) and pirell (front)i mud and snow, 225 85 16.

mileage per gallon is based on a recent run from merseyside to southampton, then london, picked up a boat and trailor, mpg went down to 18mpg then merseyside (towing 2 tonnes) and then Isle of Sky, with the same load......
Run back from Sky gave 34 average mpg.... not bad for an X reg T2....

cheer guys, as i said not had terrano long so i didnt know if there a lazy motor or what really ! from what ive read it all points to the maf its 2001 model starts first crack no warning lights on dash so i thought maybe there just a plodder! but at times its irritating ... trip back to the garage i got it from i think also they can sort my mileage display same time as that goes off at times then works then shows half display .really like the car apart from the sluggishness tho id expect 2.7tdi to have bit more go with only 84000, just had the rear brakes sorted as it kept slamming them on for no reason it turned out the o/s/r brake shoe had come apart jamming in the drum a scary experience ! new shoes have sorted that & there bedding in nicely.. oh well a dealer call turn my 1.3 into a 2.7tdi :doh

Before you spend any money or time on searching for faults, as i said earlier give it a good thrashing, you never know, it might never have gone over 70 in it`s life.

I agree with that, but don't do it on a cold engine.
Do it gradually. Warm the engine first say over 5 miles
A few minutes at 70, drop back, a few at 75 mph, drop back.

Do a few miles at 70, increase to 75 for a few miles then drop back...

Keep it in lower gears and red line it a few times.....

Happy....
Now give it a good thrashing red line each gear then cruise at a good speed for a while say 20 + miles, if safe to do so.... etc......

You will notice a better engine, quieter, better tick over, more responsive.

I always do this before an MOT as during the test, they do this, and if it hasn't done this before, you can risk engine damage.
Read the small print when booking an MOT, the garage is NOT responsible for any damage during the rev test....

I may have said before that I have had my Mav over 16+ years, :doh and done this every MOT and in between if it gets sluggish. Passes MOT every time never had issues with the engine so far...

We always call our cars she, as we treat them like a woman, a good thrashing every now and again works a treat...... :naughty

But she does leave some bruising now and again....:lol :lol

No Husbands were harmed (yet) in the posting of this thread...:lol

well i dont normally thrash or abuse mi motor but same time i fully understand where your coming from! previous owner was lady ive had it around a month prob never gone above 3 grand .. i blew up 1 or 2 motorbike engines years back so i tend to look after them more now plus being 50 i dont like to treat the motor like its just been nicked:doh .its booked in weds morn to go on the computer fault find so tue i will take your word & push the pedal harder blow out some smoke:thumbs lets hope it works if not been told maf censers gone

Easy way to see if the MAF sensor is buggered - disconnect it and drive the car. If it's still the same the MAF's not working, if it's different plug it back in.

You don't need to go to a garage to get the codes read, you can do that yourself for free. Just look in the downloads section, or click here : http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/downloads/workshop/wk29.pdf
