Hello,

The drivers side sill on my swb 1998 Terrano has rusted through in front of the back wheel ,nearly up to the seam where the door begins, ( about a foot in length). Does anyone know if there are any manufactured panels available for this small section or do you have to cut some bits out yourself or get a complete new sill?

Thanks,
John

you have to make it yourself I'm afraid, that bit comes as part of the rear quarter panel at many £100s if you can find one. - someone managed to use a Fiesta cill IIRC. I made one up from bits and pieces.

if you can weld you can make your own sills up.i did using fiesta sills and sheet metal.£60 for both sides doing including inners up to floor.

I have the same problem in the same area maybe its a common area of rust, i was just going to remove bad rust, treat, fill small hole left with good quality body filler and repaint full sill in the same paint (probably hammerite or similar) anyone else done something like this, dont want to do a cheap job only to need it doing professionaly if the rust returned?

If it's found on an MOT it'll fail!!! worse than that if you had a n accident with family in the car.............

Also check the inner sill as this will probably be the same. also rear seat belt mounts in the rear wheel arch.

 only thought it would be cosmetic! I thought as long as the chassis was in good gondition that was the important part, are the sills still structural on the maverick then? Sorry if that seems a silly question. :doh :nenau

Also just read this on another 4x4 forum....

The rust has to be within 12 inches of a seat belt mount, suspension mount etc etc.

would that be the case on the SWB Maverick?

I'd have to meausr eo be certain but theres a body mount in that area and also the bottom of the B pillar is the seat belt mount isn't it.
