Hi Guys, I mate of mine has just got a 1999 terrano without telling me.

On the way back from buying it started to act funny, He says the dash lights and window wipers would only work when the ignition was turned off :lol. On the last leg of the journey back his starter motor was engaged :doh
He tells me the main power feed has melted :doh:doh

This guy never has any luck with vehicles, I asked him did you not hear the starter grinding?? :doh

Anyway, The way it's acting points to maybe ignition switch backplate? thoughts guys?

Obviously he's probably gonna need a new starter and defo a main power feed. But would be nice to get an idea why it happened in the first place.

I wish he told me he was getting one, He claims it's solid underneath but this same mate said that about his transit and a week later the spring came through the rear arch :lol

The thought of having to replace a starter on one of these is giving me nightmares.

it could be the little switch at the back of the ignition key, mine killed the starter as well.

changed starter and ignition switch backplate. Seems to have done the trick. You can get the ign switches on ebay for £9 these days.

What about water in the drivers footwell? Out of touch with these vehicles. Has no sunroof, Wheel arch area looks solid.

Cover plates over wiper mechs under the windscreen or maybe a split cable grommet through the bulkhead.
Leaking heater matrix could also cause this but you can Normally smell the coolant.
