The misses is trying to get me to change our 2003 3.0ltr sport (64k) terrano for a 2005 Pathfinder(64K) with lots of toys? reversing camera etc.:nenau
Mainly used for school run (seven seats are a must) and towing the horse trailer on weekends so no off-road unfortunately:(
does anyone have any experience of the new Pathfinder?

daved had one on hire i beleive. and did a review on here. dont think he liked it . compared to his jeep. pm him and ask think lacrupade (paulllllllyyyyyyyyy) did the usual internerd research/reviews and again did not buy .

New Pathy

Just traded my 2000 3ltr GR SE troll in for an 06 Pathfinder 2.5 CDi SVE, she does more mpg, got more bhp and lb/ft, just hope she tows as well, will see this weekend as I will be towing a 2.5 ton trailer, once I fit the tow bar!!
All I can say so far (1 days driving) she is a better ride, but compared to the troll a little small.
From memory (got rid 2.5 years ago) she is a smoother ride than my P reg Terrano as well.
Hope this helps.
PS seats drop better into floor giving huge flat boot, and middle seats recline, also enjoying the reversing camera, It does feel like cheating though.

Some useful owner reviews on the linky below (mind you not all, how the hell do you give five stars to a car you are "picking up tomorrow evening"?:doh) which pretty much confirm what I found during my research...overpriced and not very reliable.

It started out more than 30% more expensive than the Terrano, so even with crap depreciation (which it suffers) its not cheap second hand, but if you get a good one I'm sure its a great car....its just that like the Terrano during its production, it doesn't stand up well against its immediate competitors.

I mean its 29-35k price new would have bought you a new model Disco.

the pathy is ok good mpg and rides well, just not many mods out there and any extra like mud flaps or roof bars will cost the earth if u buy OE or new from dealers

Eh, I'm confused.... if they both have same mileage / simular age etc and you know the T2 is proven at towing etc all you want is more toys?

I'm guessing the T2 is a second car if only school runs/towing... so no desperate need for the better fuel economy the Pathy would give you

Pathy might cost you £400+ in tax a year, T2 is £225ish????

I'm also guessing your T2 being the 3.0ltr has the heated/leather seats, air-con, sunroof etc etc

My personal choice would be fit your own reversing camera to your T2!!! :augie

BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW!!! :thumbs

Good point, missed the fact he has a 3.0 so he's going to see feck all improbvement in fuel economy with a Pathfinder.:thumb2

The pathfinder was an almost brand newey, fully loaded. I would rather have had my 02 T2 back :thumb2 was delighted to get the grand back :thumb2

If you do a search I posted my thoughts on it with a few examples and evidence. I know its each to their own and I didnt tow at all with it but as an all rounder it was poor.

It used a lot more fuel then the Jeep but that could have been down to the absolutely appalling autobox/engine match and the fact it was noticeably slower on the road.

We were 4 adults up first time I took it out and the back seat passengers voted a unanimous "crap" for comfort on the leather seats. The front seat passenger preferred her skoda seats !!!

Theres no doubt it is slightly more refined than the T2 but not a lot more.

I suspect its one of those cars where if you went to it after a T2 you would probably be happy because it is a more modern truck. But if you drove some shoguns/jeeps/discos of the same age ,engine size & gearbox (ie auto or manual) youd wonder why you even thought about it.

A nissan salesman told me that the feedback he'd had on them was that they attempted to effectively replace the troll & T2 but sort of slipped into a gap between the 2 and failed all round.

I was looking forwards to getting it, had the choice of disco, X5 or pathfinder. Couldnt wait to see the back of it :thumb2

Oh....................the reverse camera is superb :D

I had the 2.8 terrano, towing the 2.5 ton trailer she kept overheating, so upgraded to a 3ltr Troll on a auto box, she towed great.
I have only just got the Pathy and she is having a tow bar fitted on wednesday so will update on how she copes.
Book shows a higher BHP and TORQUE so in theory should be good!
Car Tax for my 06 Pathy is 430 (ouch) compared to the Troll 210, but she was a W (on the old tax system) Now its worked out on emmisions it seems if you want to be able to tow anything big you will have to pay the road tax.

If you like toys the CDi SVE is fully loaded, camera, twin aircon etc...

Thats exactly why my self imposed limit when I was looking was (if I remember correctly :doh) 04 ??

I had two very very similar Grands to choose from and I went for the 2002 one, effectively 1/2 price fro the vel :thumb2

towing with pathfinder

Update, Towed my 2.5 ton trailer a dream, did not even know it was there and the revs and MPG was hardly affected. Average went from 25.9 down to 24.2.
Would go as far as to say that she pulled better than the 3ltr auto Patrol and did not over heat like the 2.8 ltr terrano.

From what I hear if your after an all toys included school run 4x4 then the Mitsubishi Outlander is the baby for that (think that has 7 seats?).

But I would personally choose a T2 over it, which I did lol.
