Great to be back after renewing my subscription to this worthwhile group. I am in the process of removing the injector pump from my 3 ltr Terrano as it's knackered. I have been looking on ebay/internet for a tool that locks the crank etc prior to removing chain and sprocket.

Does anybody have a tool that I could borrow or buy to complete this task? Or is there another way of stopping things moving?

Many thanks in advance.

Dont often hear of the injector pump going on these trucks even the 3 litre.

Might be worth just posting details of whats wrong. Im no expert but others might just be able to help.

Truck refused to start. It would turn over but not fire. Had it plugged in to a fault diagnostic machine at a mate's garage and the pump was found to be at fault. It's being removed to have the electronics repaired.

Have you checked in the downloads section to see of there is a manual for yours, might be theres a patrol manual with same engine. Have a look might just help.

That would be great. I've contacted a guy I know who works for a local garage that sells Nissans. I may get lucky.

Pics of what he uses would be awesome, then we could knock some up and hold them spare until a member in need wants one :thumb2

Never seen the insides of a 3, so difficult to make something blind, but after reading the text it seems just a bog standard bolt to jamb the idler gear, the bolt needs to bee 20mm long on the threads but that is it, not sure if it screws through the gear and into a locating hole or what but simple enough, no special tool as such, Rick

The hole in the centre of the photo illustrates the requirement (hopefully). Apologies for the delay in replying.

is that hole M6 it looks bigger to me, looks like a plug has been removed (just above the wire that is hanging down) if that is the case them maybe the gear inside is not in the correct place for bolt insertion which would seem to make sense as the bolt head would be trapped in the larger hole, Rick

The gear that requires locking, may be a "scissor gear" or similar arrangement, it is in two parts with a spring preload to keep the gears closely meshed and minimise backlash.
If the IP is removed without locking the two parts together one part of the gear will unwind and the spring will need to be re-tensioned!
Camshaft example, with locking bolt fitted.....
