Well yet again, after dad used my terrano, it's running bad, black smoke on start up, and it wont pull well anymore, like there's no turbo:eek: i think dads stuffed in the turbo as he had the engine screaming just under the redline for about 3 Minuits when towing up hill and the gearbox feels weird from "aggressive" gear changes! I kept telling him to stop revving it but he wouldnt listen:rolleyes: So I'm pretty livid to be honest:mad: it's not a 180 bhp Audi it's a 90 bhp diesel, so it can't be driven stupidly, as Midlander said in another post, A little respect for other peoples property goes along way in the eyes of the owner. Anyhoo, do you think the turbo, engine and gearbox are shot? Ohh it's also dripping water too:(:(

If you need one I have a turbo that I got off of cncfabs and never got around to fitting.

A bit of advice for you now............... Don't let your dad drive it AGAIN:thumb2

Well, what ever the problem is I hope your Dad is going to cough up the money to get it sorted.
Why was he driving it like that:confused: Just shows no respect for your property mate, I would never treat someone else's property badly

Cheers, it's ok I've got a turbo

Sounds like a blocked mini filter, the way you've described it sounds exactly the same as mine when it's blocked.

Aye, he wouldn't pay though. And I have no idea why he treats my t2 badly non of our other cars get treated like this, not even the maverick he had:confused:. I'm worried I won't have a 4X4 for when I pass my driving test:doh. I don't think it matters if it's his son's property. Ohh well when he gets his Toyota mr2 back on the road, I'll flatten it with my t2 :augie:augie:lol:lol

The best revs for towing up hill is when the engine puts out it's maximum torque, it doesn't matter if it takes longer getting up the hill, at least the truck will find this quite easy.

I think maximum torque on a 2.7td is around 2200 revs so no need to exceed 3000 revs, why didn't he change up a gear.:doh:doh

You are learning to drive... Has he learnt yet. As you say this is not a sports car.

I have noticed that if you have to drop down a gear, going up a hill with a load, you can never change back up, no matter what revs you give it, so best to slow down.
If you can hold the higher gear from the start and not drop below 2200 revs, it will keep in that gear all the way up the hill.
Al least this is what I find on my 2.7td, and I have towed just over 2tonnes at times.

Exactly, just because the engine is revving higher doesn't mean it's doing more in the way of torque. All I will say is he thinks hes a better driver then me, he's more experienced as he's driven huge milage ofer the years and Ive done a few hundred if lucky but I think I know more about how to use these trucks:D

youre dad is wrong, sorry dude! I dont know anyone who would run a diesel like that (red lining) its bad. red Lining a car is really only acceptable on a sports car!! Anyway, whats this water drip? Where is it coming from? have you checked your oils etc?

Your Dad does have more experience than you, that goes without saying...he's been driving a lot longer,
So he should know how to drive , does your Dad want you to drive your Terrano as he appears to be trying to wreck it for you, he got it stuck in the mud a while back didn't he.
I think he's jealous of your truck:lol

thinks u need 2 hide the keys or keep them on u! my mother's the same, takes up 2 lanes, doesn't check blind spot, goes from 1st gear to 5th and back to 1st! terrible driver she is need 2 sit her test again me thinks. i would never let her tow anything

Aye lol:lol it's like he wants it off the road!

Hummm, You dad is going to kill it. He may have been driving longer than you, but that counts for nothing in my eyes, i have taught people with 20 year more driving under their belts how to drive better than they are. As rustic says once you go past the peak power (Tourq) you doing nothing except getting the engine to lose power, this will then get you in a lower gear and then it starts again. Your dad will of learned to drive "By Ear" but that does not work on moden engines, they wont work right doing it that way. On the pluss side, it is hard to "Over Rev" a diesel as they have limmiters on them to prevent damage. This is why you can rev the nuts off them going down hill using them as a brake. (Please dont lets argue about this, i teach this stuff and do know what im talking about) instead of the foot brake. it is possible to over rev them that way though if you are stupid.
My advice, dont let him drive it anymore. just disable it so it wont start up. Simples

He sounds like a bit of a petrol head and has no idea about diesels , let alone under powered terranos. :doh As said above hide your keys mate or what should happen when you borrow something , if you break it you fix it. Simples, a bit like your dad perhaps :lol
No offence :augie
Sounds like fuel starvation though, it's probably sucked up all the tank's crap under the massive load your dad gave it. Also did it overheat in the power struggle? If so you may be lucky and have buggered the water pump seal/gasket or if you're unlucky - head gasket
Good luck :thumbs

Why would you want to do that.If i come to descend large hill i correct my speed before i go down it. i never exceed 2500 rpm ever

But if you have 2 tonne behind, you won't be using the brakes much would you, just now and again, otherwise they will fade.

I fitted Rossini discs to mine, grooved and drilled.:thumb2

I regularly tow with a lot more than 2 tonnes down some very steep hills i slow down to 10-15 mph low gear dabbing brakes let the trailer do the braking

I'm actually thinking of putting in a hidden switch behind the fuse box as I found the wire for engine management. Pull the fuse and engine will crank but not fire. :D

Fixed that, was a loose hose:doh
