Hi all I've just joined in the hope that someone can help!
I have a 1997 Terrano 2.7 diesel and it won't start. It has been narrowed down to the immobiliser system. I have done a bit of digging on the net and it seems that it's not uncommon for the system to play up but being the NATS2, it is not an easy fix unless I replace the entire system from the ecu to the key and everything inbetween.
What I would like to know is if it is possible somehow to bypass the system or to replace the ecu with an after market non-NATS one so there would be no immobiliser at all? Or is it possible to fiddle with the existing ecu to bypass the immobiliser?
I'm not bothered by not having an immobiliser, I'd rather have a vehicle that I know is going to start!
Any one help or point me in the direction of someone who can fix the thing?

Yep turns over but won't fire. The eml is flashing and the immobiliser led doesn't light up.
There is no power going to the fuel cut off solenoid but clicks when 12v is put direct to it, but still won't start which has led us to believe the immobiliser is stopping other things aswell.
I've had an auto electrician look at it and he couldn't really help other than to suggest I try a new transponder antenna (ring decoder) and take it from there. Problem with that is finding one that will fit from a scrappers. I'm very keen to get it working as I'm losing money with it off the road! I would pay for a donor ecu, immu box, transponder and key but finding one that is exactly the same is going to take too long I fear and was hoping that I could either buy a new ecu that isn't connected to the immobiliser or get my ecu doctored to bypass the immobiliser.
By the way I read the codes from the eml by shorting 2 of the pins and the light flashed 143 and 141 which I think are immobiliser codes.

Well I now have a slightly knackered Terrano for sale! I have gone and bought another vehicle because I have neither the time nor patience to fix this one.
Any one interested let me know.

Sorry to hear that you have had enough.Wot you asking for it?

It would have been worth spending £60 for an auto locksmith to re program the key to the immobiliser, if you have a duff key and try to start after 3 attempts you will be locked out even if you had another good key it will not work, takes 10 mins and the guy can test your keys as well, Rick

It's on ebay now, starting at £350.
The auto electrician did recode the key but no joy.
He only charged me £20 because there was nothing he could do, which I thought was reasonable.
