Hi, is the Nissan Terrano front differential on a 3.0 SVC TDthe same as on the 2.7 TD and therefore interchangable?

Are you sure the diff is buggered?
What's your symptoms :augie

Loud knocking on full lock and when accelerating in 4x4 from NSF

It will be your outer cv joint

Get a drive shaft complete from cncfabs

Was this happening on tarmac ? If on the loose stuff then could be auto hub not fully engaged. Accelerating off after putting into 4x4 is bad. Full lock could also be the steering bump stops :thumbs Surprising how loud they can be , blob some grease and try again.
As stinky says cv also poss, but all the above are way before diff.
More info please .:thumb2

Yeh lock stops is a very common and simple fix

I just live with mine as grease gets washed off after about 2 days :D

The knocking is also when pulling of slightly quick in a straight line

What T2 do you have? Auto hubs or the newer locked ones ?
Be handy for others to help if you put your truck details in your signature.
Are you in 4x4 on the tarmac?

Thank you for all your suggestions, just been to a garage and what is happening is the short propshaft between the transfer box and the differential moves forward when the knocking happens. This is all they could tell me but no solution or reason why this happens.

So have you auto hubs or fixed?
Was this garage checking this movement with the car on the ramps?
Were you in 4x4 on the tarmac?

I dont know if auto or fixed hubs how do I check?

The wheels were on full lock and a mechanic lay on the ground and the vehical only had to move 1 foot for the noise and for him to see the prop move.

Yes 4x4 on tarmac when he was checking.

Perhaps the diff mounting bushes are worn or a bolt is loose/missing

I'm not familiar with the new ones but the auto hubs should have "Auto" on them and 6 allen key bolts round the outside.
I think you're experiencing transmission wind up as the 4x4 shouldn't be used on non slippy surfaces, like tarmac. Full lock is even worse.
Can you find a bit of field or something and try there in 4x4

there should not be any forward or backward movement on the prop, can you see what end, transfer box or diff, or maybe the U/J if on the diff end then sounds like pinion bearings but very unusual for this to happen unless it has been used in 4W loads and no oil in diff, think my money would be on UJ but garage should have identified both faults with ease, so do not rate garage very highly, Rick

Its transfer box end and happens in straight driving aswell but only under load or with the peddle to the metal
