Hi,

All of a sudden today the drivers door won't catch closed. Looks like the little piece of plastic that pops up & retains the catch after the door is closed and the little hook comes down, has disappeared [compared it to the passenger lock]. Tried lots of WD40 etc in case it was just stuck down. To no avail. Central locking electrics & mech still function on other doors, and electrics [solenoid?] work on this door, but the mechanism does't engage let alone lock.

So I took the door panel off and checked the rods and the electrics and all seems fine.

Removed the mechanism to take a closer look, and it all seems fine apart from the little catch that I think should be there not retaining the hook. I am really surprised it seems to have just broken. Has anyone seen this happen before? ... I'm concerned I've misdiagnosed it?

If I haven't, then I'm assuming I can just get one from a breakers and fit it?

Well, Steve came to my rescue, ... temporary door mechanism [ bailing twine ] removed from door & seat base, correct part arrived today & I fitted it so we are all secure [ and a tiny bit drier ] again !!!

Thanks All :)

It was surprisingly easy... after I'd managed to Google how to get the door panel off:

2 screws on the panel + 1 in the handle, pop out lock surround & the connectors around the edge and lift it all up out of the windowsill

Connecting all the rods back up was a bit fiddly but I'd drawn a diagram so at least I knew where each one went.

Hello Terry, I seem to have had an identical experience earlier today. Stopped for fuel and suddenly the drivers door would not latch closed. Drive home holding onto the door handle to keep the door closed!! Which part had broken on your lock mechanism, as mine seems to have exactly the same symptoms and I would prefer to get hold of the replacement part before starting to strip down the door mechanism. Thanks in advance for any advice that you can provide. Best regards, mark
