Terrano faulty dash

I'm wondering if someone can help.

I bought a Terrano (2000) with a faulty dash - none of the instruments working, would flash between 0 and full on speedometer, lights would flash etc.

I sent the dash away for repair - first to one company who said they couldn't fix it, then to another who are the no1 cluster repair company (apparently). They sent it back and it didn't work, so I just sent it to them again but again it doesn't work. It does have a 2yr warranty now though.

How can I check if it is in fact the dash that is the problem, or something else? What else might it be?

My mechanic friend is working on this - he has a lot of knowledge of Toyota Surf's but unfortunately not of these, hence all the questions. If anyone has a wiring diagram they could send that would really help - am going to get a workshop manual off ebay asap.

I think with a job like this id try to find another instrument cluster to try and see if it works, It could be somthing silly like a faulty multiplug or could be a volt drop or a bad earth somwhere. but could be a nightmare to find!

Thanks, ive passed the link onto my friend who is looking at it. Problem is we don't know anyone with one of these so not sure where to get a panel that works - could try a breaker but again don't know if the panel is ok. Any ideas on that front? I'm so gutted, I bought this back at the beginning of July and it's been sat with mechanics since

Did mine about 6months ago as Timbo said about a 30 minute job. but now has an intermittent fault where i lose everything see above for the price new.

Its a common fault with the facelift dash unfortunately....I've go one that intermittently likes to tell me its done 770,000 miles.....

Theoretically, if it is still the dash itself, the latest company have to sort it as it came back with a warranty. Will pm daved though and see what he says. I'd settle for one that tells me a random mileage occasionally, I'd just quite like to know my speed and how much fuel I have and not have some sort of freaky disco of dash lights going on in front of me!

Most facelift vehicles, i.e. post 1999. My MkIII and MkIV both have the problem.

It's written on the speedo that that's what it is.

Spudd sent me one to try and that works, so the cluster repair company have failed again! Guess I need to ask for my money back as after 2 goes I'm guessing they can't fix it now.
