Just wondering what engines will fit into a R20 terrano in place of the TD27, rover V8? :naughty

Are you still trying to convert your motor to a LR..:augie
Fed up of 28-30 mpg and want half this:nenau

Coupling any other engine to the Mav gearbox will require some form of bell housing adaptor, not sure if this has ever been done.

Rover v8 has been done on aus forums in a wd21

Small block Chevy v8 has also been done with a suitable gearbox/transfer box also

But let's be honest your not going to do this bastard modification that could cost £10k+ by the time u have sourced every thing and fabricated the various engineering solutions that you would need

Best option is a Nissan engine that will bolt up, vg30dett being the obvious choice, but its a tight squeeze and the turbos foul the inner wings/diff or somewhere iirc, basically its a nightmare the single turbo vg30det goes in easier but we didn't get that in the uk

Rb26dett is an option but then the diff and subframe again goes right through the sump which is the problem on most of these engine swaps so oil pickups need to be modded and a new sump fabbed, or a dry sump conversion, basically u are talking the mega mega money and bespoke fabrication skills

Best off tweaking the td27 which is good for 180 bhp with minor mods

But why would you want to when you are struggling to get insurance on a stock terrano
Just a thought

FFS did I say I was going to do it:rolleyes::rolleyes:, you all are jumping to conclusions again: I'm happy with the td27, its fast, its powerfull and they sounds fecking awesome :sly:sly

i recently put a ford cossie lump into our old 75 vw camper van, i can only suggest people just go out and buy something what they want as just the research and internet scouring was enough, let alone the sourcing of shorter shafts bla bla bla....... who would have guessed that a 1974 capri clutch plate held the key......

In place of the air cooled lump in the rear ? What gear box, axle ?

What did u do for cooling ? Got any pics as that's right up my street :)

Ryan you seem a bit aggressive on this one... not like you.:augie
I doubt anybody would want to respond to you with that attitude.

People are only trying to respond with interest to what appears to be questions that are not something you wish to investigate. So why should we bother.:nenau

I will in future look carefully at each post, to determine what you mean before replying to your post.
Don't ever include ME in the phrase " YOU ALL are ....." :nenau

Rustic.:nono

Well most people posting on this thread are going on about how I can't do it because of insurance and lessons, this is going off topic as I'm talking about engines, not insurance, I know I can't fit another engine, I have only just got insured on my terrano as a provisional as it is.

ok any engine can fit to it, if your willing to put the time and money into it

Top news :thumbs I was wondering how you were doing all that snow driving without insurance :augie
How much did you get it for in the end ?
I don't think this forum has ever been too fused about going off topic :lol and I think that's why it's such a larf :clap:D

£800 :D

Yes, let's just say, Toby is a bog standard terrano with the optional roof rails and A bar, that's all they know:augie

Just be careful, in the event of an accident, if you haven't disclosed all your mods, your insurer could turn around and say your cover is null and void.

Yes Mate, be very careful, as if the above happens, when it comes round to renewal time your insurance will almost certainly sky rocket.
