Hi I'm just about to buy an 04 plate Navara with a D27 engine already installed. but I'm not getting any joy from the 'garage' who installed the engine. has anyone got any tips to check up on before I complete the purchase....

for a while when new pathy launched was 4.0 v6 petrol option, guess zero sales as soon dropped. would be nice on lpg? if could source one, dunno if equiv nav had it as option.

in states they swapped a 4.0 v6 for a 5+ litre nissan v8 from the titan, might even
be 5.6, ie 4.0 +2 more pots. mind that would be 5.2/5.3? oh for cheaper petrol.

do like sound of a trol block swap. do fancy a pathy, but the extra tech scares me.

It must be a td27 engine:augie i've no idea about Navara's but the 2.7 engines fitted in the Terrano's are all most bomb proof & gear driven so there will never be a timing belt or chain to replace:thumbs found this link on the conversion might be of interest to some http://www.nissan-navara.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=8036&p=113444&hilit=Terrano+engine#p113444

Thanks everyone. Think I'm gonna take the chance and buy the Navara. Dunno what I'm gonna tell the wife though when she sees another "project" on the driveway

Did you ever do this?

I currently have a good Terrano engine, with lowish mileage, and it's non-ECU, in a non-MOT'd rusty body, so an ideal donor...

Before I start looking for D22's, I wondered if you did this, and what it entailed in the end.

Did you have to move any engine mounts, or is it just a bolt in job?

Clive I think there is some info on navara.net (or what ever it's called) about this & I think there is a step by step thread on it

Cheers, I have read that, from when you posted the link further up, but it's a bit confusing.. Firstly, they do say it is a real Pain in the a$$, but then the first guy does seem to get loaded down trying to put just the T2 engine block in, keeping the rest D22, but after that they talk about the whole assembly, engine and gearbox, as far as the transfer box. Also they are all using the much later engines, where as I have the old TD27 engine, with out Fly-by-wire, but it is on an autobox.... I think that should make it easier, as long as I can get an Auto D22 Nevara to slot it in.

Just wanted to talk to someone who has done it. as I would be doing this on the drive, without the joys of a workshop.

Using the old TD engine or the later TDI engine with a mechanical pump fitted is the way to go so there is no ECU swapping & wiring to worry about & the TD lump can easily have an IC mounted to it for a bit more get up & go:thumbs Will have to have another read through the link again as can't remember about the boxes
