Hello all well I think the worst case scenario has happened with the t2! The clutch has gone! This is our daily use car to take the kids to after school clubs and to work etc, so this really is a massive blow! Now I have looked for a price for a new clutch but as per normal I can't get one as the t2 isn't listed and there are a possible 2 clutches it could be?? What I would like to know is, has anyone changed a clutch and fly wheel in a t2 and how much work is it also where have people got a clutch from? Oh and anyone want to help hahaha cheers in advance everyone

Why fly wheel? Its not a dual mass fly wheel so should be fine. If clutch has gone with a bang dont worry itll be friction plate broken apart.

Clutch kits around £120 and I paid £150 for fitting, a big chunk of money but worth it.

I would never attempt it but Im no good with fixing it. I do know gearbox is dam heavy, Rick used to remove the engine to do the clutch.

Make sure thrust bearing is changed too as they can be noisy afterwards.

Has clutch defo gone? Could be some of the hydrolic parts instead?

Why do you need/want to change the fly wheel:confused: parts are often listed up to 2001-2003 but it's still the same bits for ones younger than this apart from the Maf's

Ah thankyou they didn't know if it was dual mass or not but if it is just a straight forward clutch that is much better! And yes it did go with a bang 😢

as said how do you know your clutch is a problem, what are the symptoms? Rick

what went with a bang? not normal for the clutch to do this? Rick

Basically I pulled off from my house in first put my foot on the clutch and put it in to second as I did this there was a big clonk/bang then it was really difficult to get in to gear when I got to the junction, then I had to turn the car off and put it in gear and then start the car to get it in to gear then when I got back close to my house, it wouldnt even go in if I turned the car off, and there was a really strong clutch smell. Now if I start the car it stinks of clutch hope this helps

Mine went with abang both times, splined metal bit in centre of friction plate shears away from the friction plates and springs.

Yep old fashioned technology, great isnt it:thumbs

Best of luck

Does anyone have a manual I can download onto my iPad?

Well if a garage is doing it they should know if it had a duel mass or not as they should have priced up the parts before telling you the cost & there won't have been a duel mass fly wheel listed so make sure they don't try & sting you for one:augie

Isnt there one in the downloads section. If not briggie will let you have a link. Its in pdf format so the ipad will open it.

its in a self extracting zip file to make the file size smaller

heres a basic pic of the setup though

One of two reasons I bought a terrano

Single mass flywheel :thumb2

Gear driven engine :thumb2

It will be interesting to see what people think needs replacing. Could any other components be damaged if friction material had come loose? :nenau

Thank you mate that's fantastic I've emailed them

Send a pm to banshee as you can get club discount from milner. Usually covers p&p but better than nothing on that price.

will be interested to find out the problem, because if the centre plate has sheared as in big bang it will not cause clutch smell as friction material will not be operating, if friction material is still operating then it sounds like the friction material has become un bonded from centre plate, most unusual, Rick

So an update for you all we took the truck apart yesterday and this is what we found,

So new clutch ordered!
