I have just got what I consider a smart looking A bar for the truck, as I wanted somewhere to mound the Cibee's that would not vibrate... I think it is a genuine Nissan one.

But....

Can anyone help me work out how I fit it...

Basically it has the 4 holes at the bottom which line up perfectly with the holes in the chassis that currently have the Pig tail bolted in, but then running vertically down the bar about half way up the straight sections are 2 more mounting points which seem to need a slot in the bumper. E.g. if you put it in place with just the back screws, and let it lean forward, when you try to then put the front bolts in, it can't lift up, as these two vertical brackets are hard against the bumper.

What I do not know is what is behind the plastic bumper to bolt it to, and how, even if you did cut a pair of slots in the bumper you would be able to get in there to put the bolts in.

Any ideas guys, I just wanted to check before I take the bumper off, and then find that it is not actually for my model or some such....

The one I had on my '94 T2 had a pair of "L" shaped brackets which passed between the grille and the bumper and bolted to an existing pair of M6 ferrules either side of the radiator.
The bottom mounting was the same as yours, but lined up with a pair of existing brackets, the o/s one being just behind the pigtail i.e. the pigtail did not have to be removed. Bruce

This one you can put the Pig tail back on once it is in place, and the smaller lashing eyes are carried through into the bull bar bracket, so down there it is definitely right, but the other brackets are no where near high enough to use any bracket passing from the holes you mention, they are only just higher than the lower slot, and hit where the bumper curves out for the upper slots.

should still fit though

ive the same one fitted

the only fixing point ive used is teh bottom ones

Hahahaha I was going to bid on that on eBay but was told by a mate that it was for a Mistral lol so I didn't bother

As the bumper/grille area is the same on pre-intercooler Terranos as the Mistral, I see no reason why it will not fit those models (1993-early 1996).
If you put it on back on eBay as such, you will probably have to beat away would-be buyers with a big stick!
I have just bought standard i.e. not a Mistral type, "A" bar from ebay for my 1994 T2 and I only won it after a pretty intense bidding war!
They do come up from time to time, so if you keep looking I am sure a '99 type will come up.

Incidentally, as my T2 lives in Spain, I initally looked for a bull bar/A bar over there, and found that the Spanish words for bull bar translate literally as "Donkey Pusher".
I found that quite amusing!

:lol In Oz, they call them Roo Bars... Over here, I call mine "Geldof" bars, ever since Bob Geldof ran in front of my Suzuki Vitara out side the Ritz in London from between a bus and a cab. Luckily I was only crawling along (like you can do anything else in London) and he sort of grabbed the top of the bars and jumped, so I just pushed him through the air a couple of feet, and had stopped moving by the time he landed again, so no harm done to my car or him. It was a weird moment, I was just about to tell him what I thought of his stupid antics, as I realised who he was, and I just sort of stumbled over my words, giving him a chance to apologise...

Anyway, I was thinking of cutting the offending mounting brackets off, and making a couple of new bars that run from the holes in front of the radiator on the car, under the grill to the spot lamp mounting holes on the bar. Can anyone see why that would not work?

Well, obviously the only option is to send it to me! :nenau I have a pre-intercooler model so all I need is a bit of extra weight to slow me down a bit more! :D

Ooohhh.. obviously... I wonder why I never thought of that...:lol

I just need to remove the plastic trim, so I can cut the bracket off flush, and the good news is, the cut mark will be behind the plastic trim, so won't show once done. Sod's law though, the plastic trim on this bar is held on by Torx screws, but just to make life interesting, they have a pin in the middle of the star, so I can't use my proper Torx screwdrivers... Now somewhere I have a hollow tipped Torx screwdriver that came with the old Volvo roof rack.. I know I put it somewhere safe....

If I find it, what are the odds on it being the wrong size?:bow

Any one know the technical name for the bolts that go into the chassis at the bottom. I need 4, but just have the 2 that came out of the pig tail so need to order a couple more. They are about 12mm, but have a fine thread in comparison to any of the other metric bolts I have that are around that size.

The ones I used went through clearance holes in what I would assume are extra towing eyes (one each side either side of the skid plate.
These holes were BIG, probably 22mm or more, so I used M16 nuts & bolts, with four really thick penny washers, o.d.30mm, i.d.16mm. I got all of these from a local fixings & fastening shop.
The bolts I used were stainless steel, as the A bar will have to come off when the car goes for it's Spanish MOT (bullbars/A bars are illegal, unless they are shown on the Spanish version of a V5, as are towbars, spot/fog lights, non-standard wheels or tyres and anything else the tester can dream up at the time - they don't like cars imported from the UK, they want you to buy them in Spain, ailing economy and all that, so they really nitpick when testing!)

Wow, I never realised they were so bad still. I did read in the old days of who ever it was that looked after the Spanish boarder at the time smashing spot and fog lights on the lorrys, saying they were illegal.

My Bull bars bolt upwards into the existing pre tapped holes in the chassis, so that wont work for me,, thanks though.

By the way, I read somewhere that they make a point of saying that those holes you mentioned are not for towing, purely lashing down, to tow, you must use the pig tail.

There are M12 1.25 pitch.
Same as the wheel nuts/studs.
