Hi. I have just bought a Nissan Terrano on 03 plate and have noticed that it is very bouncy on the front suspension. Is this normal or is there a problem which I should be looking into?

I would be grateful for any help or advice on this problem.

Thanks

Martin

I would not say they are particularly bouncy...

Long or Short Wheel base?
Is the suspension would up, or down in any way, so it is touching the bump stops?

Flat ground measure the bottom center of the tyre on the floor to the center of the arch, make sure both sides are equal. If the cvs are wound up too high (at a bad angle) it will mKe the ride unbearable.

take pics both sides and front for here.
and is it bouncy over potholes etc or around corners?
could be snapped front arb drop link?

the front shocks dont really travel very far and shouldnt produce to much bounce if they fail
some one who knows what they are on about will be along shortly.

just trying get a feel for your problem

Could be failing front shocks.
Have a quick look to see if there are any signs of oil leaks on them.

Could be the front end is a little low, shocks are on their way out or someone has blown the front tyres up far to much as they should be only 26psi but people & garages do like to put upto 40psi into them:doh:doh

Confession time, I like to run about 33 psi, admittedly I have 33" tyres :p

I run my fronts at 27psi due to getting much better tyre wear but when I had the tyres replaced they had 42psi in them:eek: front did feel bouncy & steering was dreadful & the truck was deadly due to no grip. Keep an eye on the wear rates Alex if the centres are wearing more than the edges lower the pressure down

Hi and welcome mate, do the bounce test, with the motor on level ground put all your weight on one front corner and bounce it up and down, when you let go it should stop, if it continues your shocks are bad, if this is OK have a look to see if you have a front anti roll bar with drop links to the bottom wish bones, many take them off, and will cause wallow on corners and a bit of bounce, Rick

to get your pressure correct Alex the rule of thumb is 4 psi, which means from cold to hot after a run your pressure should increase by 4 psi if more then start with a lower pressure, if low start with a higher pressure, Rick

Huh interesting theory. Do I need to drive rally style to check hot pressure? :naughty :lol
