Hopefully someone can help.
My terranos gears are slipping slightly. But only after the car has either warmed up or after a longish journey.

I'll be steadily driving along and then it will rev high and start to slow down, and if I come to a stop or set off from standing it will judder.

Is it a clutch change needed, knackered gear box, or just need some transmission fluid. Silly as it sounds I haven't checked the oil because its that bloody cold round here the last thing I wanna do is be under a bonnet.

Hope you can help

im confused , you mention automatic , then you mention a clutch :nenau... you have a mistral dont you ?

If it is a proper automatic then it might not be a bad idea to change the ATF Oil rather than top it up. I know just what you mean about the weather.

Jim

thanks for that, I'll have to go out and freeze my arse off and check the level. Is there a certain brand of oil to use?

on a good point , it reccomends you check the atf oil when the engine is warm ... so sit in the car wiv the heater on :D

not sure but if it's got some kind of dipstick rub some oil on your fingers. Should be a nice red colour not brown and should smell sort of sweet not burnt. if it's anything other than red and sweet smelling i would say change the atf oil.

Jim

Very low atf could give torque converter problems, but if it is low there are more problems like why is it low.

Well I finally plucked up the courage to go outside in the cold and check the atf level. And guess what, the flaming car won't start now.

I've just bought a new battery 2 months ago and its been running fine. I've tried jumping it off a battery pack and our other car but no joy at all, its dead.

Is there any way I can test the alternator or starter motor? I can't even jump it to get it to a garage to have it checked out.

p.s. couldn't get to check the atf fluid while running but it is a nice clean red colour.

first thing to check is your cabling....factory battery connectors are shite and corrode, just replace with three quid jobbies from motor factors, then earth and starter motor connections.

And I'm assuming your ignition switch is OK? Tuirn it very slowly and see if it makes a difference.

And is it a bloody Mistral or a T2?! :lol

Haha its a mistral, I didn't even realise I put T2 on my sig, I'll change it not to confuse anymore.

I've checked the cabling and everything seems fine. I've just had a look at the battery and its a Yuassa 12v 95AH 700CCA, I was told this would be more than enough to power it. Is that right. And at the moment its reading 11.5 V

Does the engine crank ok? if it does then check batt voltage while cranking, needs to be >9.6V

Do you mean while turning the key? Its that dead it doesn't have enough power to turn over slightly. Yet all the lights work ok and the stereos fine.

Do the interior/dash lights dim while cranking?
Check the voltage between the engine block and at the starter motor, that will show if you have any bad connections. If thats ok then its not unknown for the starter motor to fail.

Interior lights dim when cranking over, but its too dark now to check the voltage
