I understand from this site that this is a common problem.
When the rain starts the dipping into the passenger footwell starts. The sponge seal between the blower and the pollen filter housing becomes soaked then drips into the footwell. It does not drip straight away but approx three minutes after the start of heavy rain, as if it is laying somewhere then slops into the blower. I have had the vent grille and the two small covers on the bulkhead off and resealed them, but it still drips when it rains. Does anyone know if there are drain holes at each side of the bulkhead cavity to let out water, or one in the centre to drain out towards the transmission, the rain should be able to drain somewhere?

when my t2 passenger footwell flooded i checked the air intake via the wiper
surround but wasnt the problem.

instead water was coming in over the sill behind the bonnet release.

what happens is water should drain away from pocket behind nsf mud flap
but the area gains lump of crud. confusingly you can poke the drain plug
to rear of mud flap and it seem clear but the crud is higher up, in turn the
crud stops water draining down. cant recall where this comes from, dont think
its the sunroof, may even be water down front of bulkhead.

cure take flap off and scrape out crud, then hose it out. then dry carpet and
insulation. think used a vax to suck out moisture then a dehumidifier.

slightly different notes the sills fill, their only drain is to their rear into front
edge of rear wheel arch facing front edge/tread of tyre.

used to hear mine slopping back and forth, would weep on to end of side
stepss too!

Take the black scuttle plate underneath the wipers off - I believe theres a small panel on the passenger side bulkhead that rots out and lets water in.....

I had a similar problem and cleaned out the area behind the front mud flaps.I was able to do it by opening the door as wide as possible and used a wire and spoon to clean out an amazing amount of gunge. Then used a vax to suck out smaller bits. Then poured water in to check that it ran through.Seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks or the info. today i have removed the glove box so can now see top of blower and intake flap, poured water over screen and wiper grille, after some time water was dripping onto the plate surrounding top of blower then running into blower, when I put the fan on max speed more water appeared probably due to increased air flow, but only a small amount compared to how much I poured, I will have to take off the bulkhead grille again and see where it's coming in. Thanks for the mudflap/drain problem, I will look into this.

It's actually the screw fixing on the bottom right corner of the plate that needs sealing.

Remove cover 4 screws and you will see that this one screw when it leaks drops straight through the heater.
The other 3 don't due to a tall water deflector.

welcome back :thumb2

even if I did only get it 50% right as usual LOL!

one days rain in the last 16 in France, but back to a daily washout on Costa del Blodwyn :lol but who cares, its good to be speaking english again!

Two interesting dogs in at the moment, a bitch malamute/husky cross (beautiful dog) and a very friendly but fat and plug-ugly dog staffy/doberman cross that looks like a bloody beer barrel (but its owners apparently have been known to indulge it in the odd salmon bagel or three!!!)....the latter with us for three weeks so it will be losing a bit of weight methinks! :lol:lol
