Can't you have 2 working keys with just one good transponder chip?

Take the chip out of the good key and stick somewhere around the ignition lock.
Should work fine until your situation is resolved.

How can you sleep with the worry about the whereabouts of your ONLY working key?

that would have been my suggeston, i have done it one or two fords and it worked well!

When i went to try and get a key for my 1999 they said that they dont do transponder keys and said i should go to the main dealer.
And i still havent
oh by the way my key opens the door and the alarm goes off (But the sounder does not work) and when i put key to pos no 1 the lights go out and the vehicle starts.
The transponder key only cancels out the alarm when you switch the ignition on and not unlocking the door with it. (Just incase anybody was interested)
