I am having a big problem with my Terrano 2 that I have owned for a few months now.

Basically I needed to change the ECU/ECM and as such have bought an identical ECU/ECM second hand. I then took the car (partially dismantled for Nissan Main Dealer's ease), the ECU and the both keys for my car to my main Nissan dealer so they could code the secondhand ECM to the car and both keys.

Later on the same day I was told they couldn't do it without the Immobilser Box (do they mean dongle) that came from the same car as the replacement ECM - which I don't have and can't get.

I believe this to be total rubbish as I have now downloaded the workshop manual from this forum (THANKS) and the Electrical Section refers to replacing the ECM on its own and does not refer to needing the Immobilser Box/Dongle to prgram in an ECM. I am sure they would program the ECM to my car and keys, if I bought it from them!

Is it possible to buy a consult cable and the necessary software for my laptop and program the car, new ECM and keys to work together myself? Alternatively, is their anybody (private individual or trader) that I could pay to sort this out for me?

My son's friend has a Nisan 200sx S14a and he had a secondhand (uprated ECU from Horsham Developments) installed into his car and a member of the SXOC forum programmed it in with a Consult cable and NATS software (also bought from Horsham Developments).

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Marcus

What engine do you have 2.7 or 3l

With the exisiting Immob dongle, the dealer should be able to clear the learnt keys and program your existing keys., which will then tell the ECU it's okay to run.

As far as I am aware they are not one-shot only.

i believe the ECU's are different on the "newer" models, and a need the immobiliser whatsit to work, wheras the older ones are much more stupid. The workshop manual may be a little misleading here perhaps? dont quote me on this though, but this is something I have read before somewhere....!

They are- post 2001 use the 16pin OBDII connector and are far more moden a design. Method of operation still the same though.

Thanks for the responses - I thought they should be able to clear it and reprogram the existing keys to the new ECM.

Does anybody no a 'helpful' dealer in the Yorkshire area that will do the reprogram (or an independent garage with the required consult and software)? I don't think the dealer I took it to even tried - just charged me half an hours labour for nothing.

Many thanks

Marcus

This may sound silly but have you tried to reprogram the keys yourself using the " workshops section" I did mine and worked OK. David.
