hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows if these heaters fitted on terrano,s get hot! ? over the yrs some cars have been better than others heater wise mine after the engines fully warmed up it seems to blow warm air thats about as good as it gets :( so far its had new thermostat but little difference heat wise . now its turning colder bit more warmth wud be well invited:lol any ideas or suggestions welcomed:thumbs

Usually Thermostat or Pollen Filter, the filter being the most likely culprit. Theres a download giving instructions how to change the pollen filter. I also changed the thermostat to an 88 degree version which made a huge difference too, the standard is 82 degree.

Jim

Yes i agree with Jim the 88 degree thermostat lets the engine temperature gauge reach about half way nice and toastie in a few miles running, while the 82 degree standard gauge hardly moves off the bottom, the price at my local motor factors was the same,
regards
Russell

The viscous fans are oversized for our cooler climes, so it is air cooled as well.

In winter I fit a small plywood panel behind the grille, it keeps the top of the rad warmer.

Also the mass of these engines is huge, a lot of oil, water etc to warm up first before you get any heat in the cab.

ive removed the pollen filter few months ago as it blasts air thru now clearing the windscreen in secs . never thought this would help warm up the cab ? Doesnt it just keep away engine fumes etc

warm!

Hi,

When I got my Terrano the blower was worse than an asmatic chain smoker coughing onto the windscreen.:(
I removed the glove box and changed the pollen filter (about £8 from your local motor factors) and the difference was amazing:thumb2
It is also worth fitting an 88 degree thermostat and flush the radiator thru and refill with a coolant change at the same time.
You will be sorted for winter.
Couple of hrs work and about £30 in parts, well worth it.

Cheers

Steve.

pollen filter location

Hi guys. You have just lit a light regarding my terrano 2.7 tdi lwb,it is a 2001 model face lift.As the cold weather has just come upon us and I have only had the vehicle since sept. this year,I have for the last week or two complaining to myself about the crap heating system, compared to other vehicles I have owned.I am now going to change the thermostat for a 88 dg.Could some body be kind enough to tell me where the pollen filter is located on my model,is it behind the glove box as on earlier models? and is it straight forward job. Had my terrano about 3 months and love it. Regards John:)

pollen filter location

Cheers. Will get on it tomorrow and let you know the results. Thanks again.

Did you flush the pipes when you changed the thermostat ? Is your cooling system fully topped up ? Check the rad not the expansion bottle. Top it up with the engine running quite fast, about 2000rpm, with the heater wide open and on full blast, this will pull the coolant round and fill your pipes for you.

After 26mile trek to work its warm in the cab but not hot . I will check myself the above mentioned thanks

Hi Folks Changed the pollen filter and thermostat (88dg).The pollen filter was in a real crap state, cannot imagine the last time it was changed. The thermostat had been changed for a 88dg one,but changed it anyway. As you guys said, make sure you vent and bleed the system at the radiator. The heating and air con are now brilliant. Total cost including antifreeze top up approx. £25 + my time and I am no mechanic, but I just look and learn from this great Web Site. Thanks again,:clap John

I had the same problem about a year ago , very poor
heater I took the pollen filter out chucked it in the bin
and ever since the heater has worked great with no
pollen filter.

2.7 Td doesn't have a pollen filter.

For all those members driving a Td version, and can't find the pollen filter, the reason is it doesn't have one. :augie
So stop looking. :doh

.

Execelent........ im having the same problem with mine!
Its just warm enough to clear the screen but being a HUGE LWB T2 it never really gets the inside warm.

Ill change the pollen filter, change to a 88Deg therm and flush through the coolent system. Im guessing the filter on my 1996 TDi is behind the glovebox as stated?

I have noticed that i have a small water leak around the water pump...... could this be drawing in air??

Also when I took the centre dash out to change the stereo, I noticed that someone had used loads of dusters to block the centre vents?? do you think they were trying to get more airflow to the screen or something??

Small water leak near the pump may mean you need a new pump. I wasted 40 odd quid on k seal and anti freeze before I bit the bullet and put a new pump on.
Those rages need to go as they will store moisture !
If you do fit a new pump read the workshop download first, it's almost spot on, especially the bit about protecting the air con rad with card.
However it doesn't say that you'll need to split the shroud in half to get the rad out. As for the thermostat, I just fitted what the shop gave me on mine, it works, and the heater's lovely and hot.

Yea i was guessing ill be needing a new pump at some point........... mainly because I hate things leaking so I may as well put a new one on.

The rags are now removed from the vents as i didnt see why they were there anyway.

I have also found that even though the fan is blowing away happilly, the air actually coming out of the vents seems minimal even if on full?? Could this just be a blocked filter??
