My temp gauge doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions?

Could be the sender, what engine is it?

On the 2.7Td there are three temperature senders, one is for the temp gauge, one for the ECU and one for the glow plug circuit. They are mounted near to the thermostat housing, in a line.

You can find the faulty one by disconnecting the wire and using a multimeter on ohms, probably on the 1k ohm range.

If open circuit... sorted.:thumb2

Can you not take the wire off the sender, earth it, ign on and see if the temp gauge move to hot?

Well it might go too HOT... and burn it out too if left for too long.

Even when the sender is HOT it still has resistance, thus limiting the current.

Well that's what we used to do when I was in the trade. A quick earth will not hurt. Get a friend in the truck to watch - simples.

Quick is fine, but I had visions of him leaving it connected, then looking at the gauge... :augie

Is it not working at all, or is it just moving up slightly from cold but not getting anywhere near to were you would expect it to be, ie just under half way ?

My Movano temp gauge was driving me mad, very unreliable and having spent £33 on a sender unit last year I decided to buy one of these

I can confirm that it works perfectly, it shows when the thermostat opens and closes exactly right, the gauge reads from 40dcent upwards and warns when overheating apparently.

You may need a adapter to fit the sender or drill and tap a short bolt like I did.

For just a tenner I would say its better than oem ?
