Hoping to get a caravan in the next 6 months but will be fitting a manualy switched elec fan for hills to help save a bit on fuel as the viscus fan adds extra load on the engine which in my eyes you don't want going up hill towing

The load is to the alternator instead so the outcome is not much different in the end !

I would be suspecting the viscous fan, since fitting electric to mine never goes above half way even when towing slow on a very long hill on a very hot day with gross 4.5 tonnes, Rick

A viscous fan is running all the time where as an electric fan runs only when needed, so must be more efficient overall. Also easier to know if a fan is working.
