my buddy says if you change a engine in a car , you have to notify swansea ( dvla ) and they will issue a new log book .... is this true ? :nenau

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

  • a receipt for the replacement engine
  • written evidence from the manufacturer
  • an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
  • written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

not change in engine size tho is it ? just the engine number

Not sure about this one, a VIN number is stamped into various places in a car and I think is also appears on the engine too.

I know a lots of people with motorbikes make sure they only buy bikes with matching frame and engine numbers :)

I expect VOSA have a fee in place somewhere as usual :banghead

Yep, just the engine number.. & documents to support legitimate purchase etc.

What you do NOT want is the engine number from a stolen VIN or similar cropping up in your car.
It just supposed to slow down the criminals..........
