Hi wats difference between td27ti (latert2) and td27t (earlier t2). I no the heads are different but wat else is?

Will a td27t go in a 99 t2 and run with no probs or will i have to change any parts? turbo pump ecm? I no it wont be as powerfull but not to fussed just need it running.

Your info will be helpfull thanks jimmy.

do you mean the td and the tdi
if so they are wildly different elctrics wise. ecu etc

this came up a couple of weeks ago toolbox pointed out it could be done in theory but loads of work and big expense not worth it

buying a tdi engine would be far cheeper

Both are intercolled tdi's. Whats different with wiring ecu etc?

not sure then .... but i bet there are a few electric issues at least

toolbox is your man then... pm him he's the mechanics guru
if he dont know, its not worth knowing

Jimmy Never heard of those variants ??

They are all either TD (Turbo Diesel) or TDi (Turbo Diesel Intercooled).....both have turbos but the earlier TD ones have no i/c and about 25bhp less than the later intercooled version. ???

If the earlier one has no bonnet scoop then its a TD not a TDi - the latter has the scoop.

Its been the same basic engine block throughout so not sure the head is any different - can't imagine why it would be but someone will prove me wrong again.....:)

Well according to stats the TD27TI is direct injection, 8 valve engine, and the torque is 278nm@2000 rpm. Which I believe would use the bosch system.

Compared to the TD27T which is indirect injection , 12 valve engine that produces 221nm@2200rpm and I reckon should be using the hitachi version.

So all the changes may well be in the head and the fuelling systems.

And both can be found in the facelift (round headlight cars) as the older terranos/mavericks with out the intercoolers should be TD27 (without the T or TI)

I have the tdi with 8 valves but hitachi fittings.... bri

I think that information is completely wrong. The intercooler was fitted from 1996 with round headlights, the engine is 8 valve and its not ohc its push rod! that information may be for the patrol only... as I understand it......bri

check the other codes then and maybe your engine for its code aswell. I dont know cus I just read the details you saw. I ain't had the head of mine so never counted valves!

Has anybody else counted valves ?

I have also read that it was midway 97 that they used both engines and fitting to get rid of old parts so yours could be either on that year. mine is 98 and bosch. but my father in-laws is 96 and hitachi

Scott my 99 TDi is Hitachi.

As per Bri's earlier post, I don't think this info is accurate - apart from potentially the very earliest versions, this 2.7 engine has remained pretty much unchanged. Its always had the same number of valves and the addition of the inercooler was the only substantial change along the way. Its exactly the same engine and block (without the turbo obviously) fitted to the FX or Fairway London black cab.

One but thats not the point. I don't know of an informative source that says the basic 2.7 engine has changed in any substantial way. Happy to read it if there is.

But the online manual only covers two variants. The later 3.0 Patrol engine and the single ongoing 2.7.

Time to change and span your wings. all that is true may not be within this site

Wise words Scott, but facts will suffice. Please point me at the words of wisdom, I am always willing to learn. :)

Prove me otherwise then....Who is to say that all thats on this forum is as true or wrong as the other?

Scott just read the manual, its all there. One single engine type throughout. Early without i/c, later with i/c. Little else fundamental changed.
