Anyone recall this project?

http://www.jaymic.com/lpgblackcabs/technology.asp

Lowering emissions in London taxis by switching engine to spark ignition.

Had me thinking again with all this talk of our dirty diesels if this could be
viable.

We've had threads before about what other petrol engines would fit a T2
seems answer is closer than think.

Site doesnt say, but I wonder what sort of power our units would give,
200bhp ? and then keeps costs down on LPG? maybe torque would be lower
or produced at higher revs?

Reckon its got MakeIfFit all over it.

Think glow plug holes become home of spark plugs.

For a conversion close to £6,000 could make it unviable, but certainly an interesting project idea.:thumb2

convert an oil engine to LPG, not on a 15+ year old motor, new pistons, modified head, exhaust etc plus ecu mods and loom, you could get a used 2.4 engine and gearbox (petrol & Diesel are different) but then you have the loom to change as well, certainly possible and cheap, I have a good 2.4 engine & gearbox including ecu, loom and front pipe with oxygen sensor in fact all you need for £500.00 even have one with LPG conversion, same money, Rick

The guy I bought some of my LPG stuff from was one of the main developers of the spark plugged London taxi. Black cab used the basic non turboed 2.7 diesel. Bonkers amount of money was being poured into the design.
He confused me with science but I remembered enough to add LPG to my oil burner .
Australia have done lots of LPG injected big trucks etc as Govt gave grants for it.
Rambles on.............
Any road up I have masses of POWER :naughty

Only saying but could buy a petrol truck?

indeed but over last 10 years number of petrol 4x4 declined on the market.

when current pathfinder came out had a v6 4 litre petrol, soon dropped, could
have been fun with lpg. the d3 disco 4.4 v8 soon dropped, lack of sales.

personally wouldnt want to lpg only as per taxi project but then petrol and
lpg mpg much lower than diesel which is bigger issue touring with 4x4 and
towing.
